| Typewriters. You know, before they had computers? Yeah, those old things. Who here thinks typewriters are neat? Who here has used one? For what purpose do/did you use a typewriter? Anyone here use a typewriter regularly? Anyone here own a typewriter? What kind? I recently purchased a lovely vintage typewriter for only $1. It's electric, but still has hammers. *writer heaven* It's an Adler electric MX, I think. I need to check if it needs a new ribbon... after my mama shows me how to feed paper into it. I've never used one before, but have been keeping an eye out for an inexpensive one at garage sales. I plan to use it mostly for letters, but I'm considering writing the rough draft of a novel on it, as a compromise between typing (speed) and handwriting (not-editing). | |

| I think they're neat! My sibs and I would play with our mum's old typewriter when we were little, but I don't think that counts as "using" a typewriter. | |

| I adore typewriters! We recently inherited a classic old one from my great-grandma. (My brother claims it's his.) It is a Corona Four, and it's a real dandy! The ink is pretty light, so we need to get a new ribbon for it, like you Phili, but we haven't been actively searching for one. We've only done some practice typing on it. Nothing like serious writing. | |

| Ooh I love type writers. I wrote a lot of my old book out with a type writer; it was really old but then we lent it to someone and they broke it. | |

| I've always wanted a typewriter. I read about them all the time, and how authors won't give them up for computers. But I don't think I've ever experienced one in real life. I'll have to come visit yours some day, Leah. | |

| Ooh, that looks like a gem, Almond! If I find a non-electric typewriter that's not priced like the antique that it is, I'll buy one. But I think my electric for $1 is a good find in the interim, especially since it still has hammers. Oh yes, you do that, Katie! In the meantime, you should look at garage sales. I've seen several of them before. The rummage sale where I bought mine had two. | |

| I have an electric typewriter which needs ribbons. I'll have to ask my auntie. She gave it to me for free after they had a yard sale and it didn't sell. My mom had it before my aunt. | |

| We set my typewriter up last night and figured out how to work most of the controls. I find it delightfully amazing how many features, albeit manual, the typewriter has. I now know how to set margins, change line spacing, and switch colors - the ribbon has both black and red ink! There are still a few buttons on there that neither I nor my mother know what they do, though. The typewriter still has some ribbon, but I'm not sure how long it will last. I'm considering typing a book on it (as a compromise between computer and handwriting), but the machine is very noisy. That doesn't bother me, but I fear it will annoy family members, severely limiting the times when I can write. | |

| Rebecca Zes has the loveliest little vintage typewriter that actually works! *is envious * Other than admiring someone else’s though, I've never used them. I can imagine the delight *shivvver!* of hearing the little clicking sounds though, and then the long ding at the end! Oh, oh! Heaven. | |

| I don't think mine dings, but it clicks quite happily. (And noisily.) | |
