As in heroic character I've read?
I think Lucy from the chronicles of Narnia. Her faith was very inspiring and I try to incorporate a character with that attribute into almost all of my books.

Who is the most memorable, in your mind, fantasy character? What was it about this character that made them so epic? How do you think we can incorporate this into our own stories? |

I'd have to say Boromir or Theoden. Boromir messed up, but died to try to make it right. Theoden was horrified at what was happening and unsure of what to do against the larger armies and charged them anyways. He also died doing that. |

Morgon. Morgon, Morgon. Morgon who was too stubborn to die, too stubborn to give up, too stubborn to stop hoping he hadn't actually been betrayed... And of course no one even knows who Morgon is! Of course, Deth from the same story was also very memorable. That's the first thing that comes to mind... if I were picking a character from LotR it would be Gandalf. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by heroic or memorable though.

I don't think that's the wolf's name...isn't it Maugrim? I know which Morgon Vanya's talking about, though.

Morgon seemed more the reluctant type than the really heroic type to me. Deth better fits the heroic description IMO. Aragorn, YES! I knew there was someone I was forgetting. Tolkien likes heroes, don't he?

Well, it depends on whether we're talking about heroic or memorable. Morgon was heroic in his own way. But so was Deth. Deth was awesome. The name of the wolf Peter kills is Fenris. Fenris Ulf. Unless someone changed it... I love Aragorn. For most memorable I'd pick Gandalf. For most heroic I'd lean towards Eowyn. Aragorn is awesome, but you kind of expect him to be heroic. So he wouldn't win on that scale. Leandra... seriously? You're the... *counts* third person I know then! Coolness! |

Fenris Ulf is what our old copy of LWW had his name as. When we got a new set, the name was Maugrim. I don't know why it was changed. Vanya Katerina Jaynin wrote: Leandra... seriously? I really loved them all the way up until somewhere in the ending.I suppose I should try to mention a heroic character too so this isn't spam. Huon from The Great and Terrible Quest ('nother obscure but awesome book). He was willing to sacrifice a lot and to endure all sorts of hardships to do what was right and what needed to be done. |

Fenris was the name of Lewis' original wolf character. In the LWW movie the name of Fenris was changed to Maugrim. And so when the rereleases of the book came out after the movie, the name of the wolf was changed. Which is despicable! Despicably evil I agree, Aragorn is quite the heroic character. |

Our current copies are older than the movie (unless there's another movie I'm unfamiliar with) and they have Maugrim instead of Fenris. *shrug* |

I'm watching this thread. Sometimes I'll maybe oil my brain cells and create a post. But in the mean time I'll be watching. I really want to know what aspects of heroes you like the most. The, "So heroic he died!" "So heroic he didn't die," exchange on the previous page was great. Perhaps more discussion? *puppy dog eyes* Wait, why am I puppy-dog-eyeing? Do you think it's more heroic to die or not die? Why? |

It depends on the situation, really. Sometimes dying would be more heroic, sometimes living would be. |

I think a heroic character can die, it depends on what he dies for. A character that lives can be less heroic than a character that dies because sometimes a character's death proves how noble he is. I rather like to (if I kill one of my good guys) make them die a noble death, because I still want them to be heroic. Yay! I think that was about as much confusing as the chat room when there are thirteen people in it. |

There was a character in a game of mine who died like that. He was a paladin, a holy warrior of God. When the fortress of their nemesis was caving in around them, he ran and held up the doorway leading out so everyone could escape before his back gave out and the castle crumbled down on him. |
