| Faolan: A nice man who made a bad decision, joined with the wrong side, and now carries a heavy burden of secret guilt. How would you pronounce his name? I want to make sure it's spelled like it sounds. | |

| I have a tendency to put a syllable break between two vowels when they're different, so I would say FAY-oh-lin. | |

| Very interesting... Okay, it's supposed to sound like "Fah-o-lahn". But I don't want to change the spelling. Not really, anyway. What should I do? Does he sound like an interesting character? He's in the story I posted in The Fireside. http://www.holyworlds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2527 | |

| Sending you a PM on linking, Aemi. Not really sure I have any suggestions for helping people pronounce the name the way you want...but I do like him and think he's interesting. | |

| I'm wondering...Should I care? After all, all your pronunciations were very similar to what I intended. Maybe I should relax and let it be open to interpretation. What do y'all think about that? Now, just for fun, how would you pronounce "Mahlia"? | |
| Author: | Leandra Falconwing [ April 4th, 2011, 12:14 pm ] |
| Post subject: | Re: Faolan |
| If it's not important to the story, I wouldn't worry too much about the way people pronounce the name. And I would pronounce Mahlia as MOLL-lee-uh or something close to that...(the moll part being pronounced like Molly without the y, not like mole. If that makes sense. I was having a hard time figuring out how to type the way I pronounce the first syllable.) | |

| I'd probably say MAH-lee-ah. | |

| Post subject: | Re: Faolan |
| I spelled "Mahlia" that way on purpose, because that way it's pretty obvious how to pronounce it. Pronouncing "Faolan" wrong is okay, but don't mispronounce my MC girl! Speaking of MC, how would y'all pronounce "Davien"? He's my MC man. | |

| Maybe y'all knew this, but "Faolan" is actually a real (albeit unusual) name. I found it on a baby names website. Just type "Faolan" into Google and you'll get hundreds of results. But I pronounce it differently then "they" do. "Davien" is also from that website, and I altered the spelling slightly. Both names are now firmly attached to the characters. "Mahlia" I completely made up. I knew almost from the beginning that her name had to start with an M, and Davien's name had to start with D. (I wrote a whole scene once, referring to him as "D" the whole time. | |
