| Post subject: | Names for a Creator |
Hey there! I need help with names. Female names come pretty easy to me, but male . . . Don't ask. I need a . . . . kind of a title I guess, for God in my story (I hope you know what I mean). I am considering calling him the Alpha One, but that would work better in a dog based story, and I am working with snow leopards. So if there are any ideas, I would be obliged. Any other name ideas would be appreciated as well! |

When you say "name ideas", do you mean any name, for male or female or just a name for God in your story? In this post, I'm guessing the latter. Good point; "Alpha One" sounds too canine, so I wouldn't recommend using it. Since snow leopards live solitarily in the wild, I don't think you could use the name for a leader of a group of leopards. You could try writing about what the leopards think of God, then make a name off of that. (For instance, if they think of Him as being the best hunter, they might call Him the "Almighty Hunter" or something. OK, that was cheesy. Those are my suggestions so far... I do have a rather extensive list of both female and male names. I can PM it to you, if you would like. In Christ alone, ~ Elsa/Alaethea |

What about Cathaoir? It's Irish for "Warrior" |

Sorry, I should have been clearer in my post. Example of my naming problem; I had a snow leopard named Arctax but my brother keeps calling him Anthrax Quote: What about Cathaoir? It's Irish for "Warrior" That's a good one, Mindy. I really like it. Kind of describes God as the way Israel saw him. |

There are two ways that I come up with names. One is to look through the genealogies in the Bible. There are some awesome names in there, and unless someone's a Bible scholar I doubt they'd recognize them as being biblical. Also I look for other meanings of words. For example I had a centaur in my story very much in need of a 'teacher' sounding name. I looked up the word 'wisdom'. Another word for it is 'eluciditis'. So, Mr. No-Name-Centaur became Eluciditis. |

Great suggestions, Lady Naarah. I especially like the one involving biblical geneologies. Thank you very much! |

re "artax": I think you should stick with your names, and then LATER decide if you need to change them. If you like your names, they fit your character, and are consistent with your language, then you should keep them! I didn't even THINK of Anthrax when I read arctax btw. |
