I started out trying to get critique on one of my MCs, but I finally think I've gotten some of his problems worked out. Due to trying to protect spoilers, I'm changing this thread to just contain an overall profile of all my charries.

Name: Phaidra
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Physical Description: Phaidra is a good, medium height. She is slender and carries herself with a fluid grace. Her hair is about waist length, wavy and is a honey blonde color with tinges of red in certain lighting. Her eyes are a deep emerald green. Phaidra is pretty average in her appearance; not by any means a stunning beauty, but still quite attractive.
Disposition: Upon first meeting her, most would call Phaidra shy. She is quiet and reserved, but knows her manners. Depending on the impression you give her, she might or might not use them. Growing up in a richer profession than most serfs, Phaidra is very cultured and graceful, but there is a tinge of rebellion that flavors it all. She would far rather be out roaming the forest on the back of her horse than sitting and conversing with people.
Phaidra has good parents, but after a traumatic situation, it was very hard not to give in a little too much to her. She has become rather spoiled, though don't tell her that, it would cause her to get very upset. She is extremely determined. This is good in that along with it comes a relentless loyalty, but her persistence often leads to arguments and she will not stop until she has her way.
For the most part, Phaidra is rather umpredictable. She has a fiery and impulsive nature that gets her into trouble a lot of times. To go along with that, she is nearly fearless. Unfortunately, this leads to recklessness and those around her do get tired of trying to bail her out of the situations she gets herself into.

Name: Murren
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Physical Description: Murren stands around 5'10" and is slender while still muscular. His hair is honey blonde, but it bleaches out more in the summer. He has dark eyes that are nearly black and they always hold a sharp, unnerving glare that appears to be sizing everything up.
Disposition: Cold and unfeeling is the first impression Murren gives off. This is nearly true, at least on the surface. Murren is cynical in every meaning of the word. Everything is wrong with the world and he might as well not live at all, since his existence really doesn't have much impact besides hurting people. He might seem selfless and sacrificing, but most of this comes from the feeling that he does not deserve anything better.
Overall, Murren is ruled by two things: vengence and guilt. He lives for the day when Cealach will be paid back for all the horrible things he has done. That is why he didn't just rebel in the first place and have it over with. His desire and his purpose are to avenge the deaths of his family, and he will not rest until he sees it accomplished.
As for guilt, Murren was always pretty sensitive and protective before the king got a hold of him. That hardened him and made him feel the need to attempt to cut off any compassion or thoughtfulness. It is still there, lurking within and getting buried deeper and deeper with every ruthless task that he has to carry out. Unfortunately, Murren does have a conscience, though, and every day the guilt intensifies more and more. He is so smothered by it that he doesn't see his way out and has gradually just come to the acceptance that he is a hopelessly flawed creature with no other purpose than to evoke grief and hurting. It is painful living with this realization, but Murren sees no way out of it, short of killing the only thing he has the ability to protect.
Every once in a while, Murren's good side does surface, but usually not for long and as time goes by these incidences become less and less common. Usually, it is due to a flashback to the trauma in his childhood or a threat to the one thing he believes can save him, the thing that the king will find if he harms a certain chandler's daughter. For that reason, Murren has built up quite a few secrets.
I could probably go on and on about Murren, he is sort of my pet character, but I'll spare your eyes and stop here.

That's it for now. I will be adding to this, but, in the mean time, any critique or opinions are welcome.

Does he ever defy Cealach EVER? Because if he cares for justice THAT much...regardless of himself, then you would think he would be more of a martyr, or a renegade knight.

What has kept him in service to Cealach this long?''

If he isn't at least a little selfish, then he would either have been killed before this for being such a pain and being extremely insubordinate, or he would have been strong and escaped and become a vigilante or something...

For him to still be doing what he does, there MUST be an element of selfishness which I don't see in the sketch you have so far. Just a thought. :)

Also...how constant and sever was this torture you say he went through? Because children do not thrive and grow up to be strong if they are constantly abused and tortured. And I'm not sure how effective he could be as an adult if he's always dealing with injuries!

Which makes me ask....what makes a king willing for his knights, who are supposed to be tough and fight and stuff, hurt each other?

Nessa- She's given up the veil, the vows she'd sworn, abandoned every effort to conform. Without a word to anyone she's gone her way alone, a dove escaping back into the storm.

Nolan- And though I don't understand why this happened, I know that I will when I look back someday, and see how you've brought beauty from ashes, and made me as gold purified through the flames.

Azriel- And who do you think you are, running round leaving scars, collecting your jar of hearts, and tearing love apart? You're gonna catch a cold from the ice inside your soul, so don't come back to me. Don't come back at all...

Thanks for the suggestions! I see what you mean about the abuse part of it, so I changed that a little bit and I also changed his commitment to justice so it didn't come off quite as strong.
His selflessness mainly comes from guilt, it's not really good. It's just mainly him thinking that he has no worth, so in a way, he is sort of selfish. (Does that make any sense? ) I did go back and emphasize the fact that he does pity himself and there are aspects of him that are based off of self-interest.
If, let's say when Murren was first arrested, Cealach intentionally let Phaidra and Glenys get away and then used them as hostages sort of, saying that if Murren was uncooperative, he would have the girls killed. Would that get someone who would otherwise probably rather be a martyr to be in complete obedience with an evil king? Would it bind him even if he had no contact besides just seeing them every once in a while on the streets? I know that, eventually, he would have to make a choice between the lives of a couple of girls and the innocent victims he was harming...
Or what if Phaidra was vital to something or had something of his parents or held a secret which would make him want to protect her if only for that...
Ugh, so much to consider! Murren, why do you always have to be so confusing?

EDIT: I changed this thread a little to include all of my characters and not just a whole information dump about Murren.
