| Post subject: | The Kins of the Huri |
| The Huri are an ancient off-shoot of humanity. They originated when a number of ancient woman were kidnapped by the demons (at that time they were still capable of a fully physical manifestation) and ultimately became their wives, sorceresses and demons in their own way. The demons took human form, but in such a manner that their offspring were changed. The Huri were their children. The Huri are considered human (in most cultures of Eartea men lead the household but the ethnicity, nationality, and family name of the mother is taken by the family) but can reproduce only among their own specific Kin of Huri. There are several kins of Huri: The Sun Huri are servants of the false Sun God. They are fair haired and dazzlingly bright skinned. They have very large wings (it takes a lot of wing to lift a grown man) that are the shape of eagles, but are bright white with faded yellow highlights at the edges, earning them the name Goldwing among certain cultures. The Sun Huri are rumored to be slightly luminous, but it's rather difficult to tell. They are generally the same size and builder as slender humans. The Moon Huri (worshipers of the false Moon God) are horrible and bat-like. Their hair is course but very thin and spares. Their skin is pale, but also much clearer than our own. Their eyes are very wide and are shaped like cat's eyes, and are ideally suited for the dark. They also have wings, but they are horrible and bat-like. Their wings are fragile and most of them are damaged beyond repair after only a few years of flying. They have given rise (and for good reason) to legends about vampires. The Earth Huri worship the false Earth Goddess. Their skin is "red" (like the Native Americans). Their hair is long, thick, and covers more of their body than our own. They are only a little larger than children but are generally stronger than human adults. Their skin is very thick, and their hair is generally dark. They have given rise to stories about "bear-men". The Huri who serve the God of Love do not appear to different from us. They are, as a rule, more beautiful, but they are also very weak boned and bodied. In fact, they are so committed to the idea of complete devotion and (in an un-Biblical sense) unconditional love that they are commonly used as household slaves, or worse. They are not workers of the field, but the maids and men of the household, cleaning, organizing, cooking, and serving. They are deeply loyal to each other and form a second, hidden culture within the cultures they serve. Unlike most Huri they are deeply idealistic, but they follow their god despite whatever they might feel, believing that their calling is to complete and utter devotion. They are, however, rather brutal with those who fail this complete devotion. There are also the War Huri, but I believe enough has been said about them elsewhere. Each Kin of Huri is divided (like the War Huri) into several "Classes" or "castes". Each is not only culturally but physical different. Within each Class there are tribes. The tribes are generally traced back to a few brothers or sisters who were children of the demons. There are three or four in each class. Among the tribes there are smaller extended families called clans. Each Kin has its own culture. Each Class has its own unique spin on that culture. Each Tribe has its own traditions. Each Clan has its own unique practices. Huri can be converted. Most (aside from the War Huri and Love Huri) are never reached by the Covenants. I would like to note that Eartea is the world of Bonesword and is distinct from the story with the ring-wearers and the dwarves. Eartea is the world in which the Great Fire occurs. | |

| All the kinds of Huri are interesting, but I found these two especially so: Neil of Erk wrote: The Sun Huri are servants of the false Sun God. They are fair haired and dazzlingly bright skinned. I have found those Huri and the War Huri to be the most visually memorable. | |

| The Sun and Earth Huri were the most interesting to me. Incidentally, how is Huri pronounced? The Sun Huri's physical description was definitely the coolest. Do the Huri have any sort of magic/cobha powers, or is it just their physical build that is changed? | |

However, most Huri are deeply involved in the worship of their false (and demonic) gods, and are heavily involved in the occult. Many can exercise demonic power over their enemies. In fact, most of the demigods are demon-possessed Huri. But every sentient being in Eartea can practice the Music. (See my Music as Magic thread in the Magic/cobha area.) Coupled with the unique cultures, physical enhancement, and demonic power of the Huri, the Music becomes a much more powerful force than when wielded by most normal humans. And, of course, the dragons (maybe I should talk about those sometime) can practice the Music as well. And they are the sworn (and utter) enemies of the Huri and the gods.

| Reiyen wrote: The Sun Huri's physical description was definitely the coolest. I'd have to agree with Reiyen here. They all sound pretty sweet, though. What do you mean by saying they serve a certain demon? Simply that they are that specific one's offspring. How long do they live? | |

| When you say 'the False (Sun, Moon, etc.) God', do you mean a god that doesn't exist or a being that is worshiped but is not worthy of such worship? | |

False as in a farce, a fake, someone pretending to be something they aren't. The false Gods are actually demonic entities conspiring to deceive mankind. Dragons are occasionally worshiped as well.

OK, thanks. I think the Huri are very cool, by the way, particularly the Sun and Moon Huri.
