Gryphins are basically the same thing as what most call Griffins , but since I named my main character that before I thought about adding Gryphins I couldn't call them that to.

Gryphins have a lion's body and tail with a hawk's head and wings.

Gryphins are an intelligent race that interact with the other three intelligent species in Algramba. Any of the other three species can ride the Gryphins and over time they develop a special bond where they can sense the other's emotions. Occasionally the bond is instantaneous. The Gryphins can not speak any of the human tongues because of their beaks, but they do have their own language.

The four races are Gryffins, Men, Arquero, and Rockinoua (need to change name! )

I love Griffins

I like the way you're spelling Gryffins. Neato. You may consider, to avoid similarities to your character "Griffin", spelling it the alternate way of "Gryphon".

I was thinking of maybe spelling it with one f. (Gryfin) How does that look?

In terms of look I certainly like Gryffin better than Gryfin. Overall though, I think Gryphon would be best for ya. 'Cause Gryfin/Gryffin is pretty similar to Griffin. Which isn't necessarily a problem. But if you don't want them to be similar haha... then Gryphon seems to make more sense.

Yeah, I see your point. I did choose Gryfin because it is different. I guess I could use Gryphon. Or maybe Gryfon or Griphon? Whichever you like best I'll probably use.

Gryphon is not so much copying as a genre convention, like elves and dwarves. I like the spelling gryphon because it is established, so we know for sure what you're talking about, plus it has more of an Old English feel like Inesdar said .
