I know some of us are screenwriters - who are you? When did you start screenwriting? Which do you do more of - screenwriting or prose-writing? If you're not a screenwriter, go get Celtx and try it. :D

I started screenwriting a little over a year ago, and I split equally between it and prose. My screenwriting tends to be more market-oriented; I've committed two scripts to production, with other jobs pending, while I'm still working on sending my prose out to the world.

I think the closest I've come to screenwriting is the five (and the beginning of a sixth) short scripts I've done....they're probably in a completely wrong format, but it works for me. I haven't really considered doing any serious screenwriting before.

I'm a screenwriter but I have deemed it best to take a break and establish my prose style... but my heart will always be with the visual medias; that is to say, film and manga.

I got into screenwriting about 20 months ago as a very green newbie, but now I can nitpick dialogue incessantly. XD

As a directer I do write a lot of screenplays. I have written 1 short that directed, I have edited 2 screenplays and adapted 2 stories for the screen. (All of which were made into films.)
Plus six or seven unfinished ones I'm working on.

I've watched my sister, Kathy (SpiritOfTheSky) do screen writing, it looks really fun. I don't know how much she's done but it was cool watching her do it! :) I've never tried any myself though.

Leandra... have you considered seeking production?

Joe, I don't know if I've seen any of your scripts. Are any of them up on CF?

Elanor... that's cool! :D

I did one screenplay back when I was 12 or 13 years old. I took a screenwriting day class with a friend who was in high school at the time, and I was inspired to write one. It was fantasy, and I titled it "Dragon Tamer." It's about 150 pages long. I re-read some of it a year ago and shake my head at some (a lot!) of the dialog. XD

Novel writing has always appealed to me more since I'm fond of description-writing, and I like to know what's going on in the character's head. ^^

No. Not with what I have, anyway. *cough* (The scripts I've written are called "Planet Wars"; no way are they ever getting produced unless my brothers and I get around to doing it.)

No though I think there are some of the movies that were made from them one there.

Oh... Almond! That's so cool! Why didn't you tell me this before? 150 pages... you know, I bet if you cut 'n dice you can make something out of it! Can I see it? Please? Please? Just for Peanut?

Sorry, Joe, that's what I meant - are any of the finished films up where I can see them? I know, the phrasing on my question was off. :P (And yes, Airianna, that's Joe Clemons.)

Doubtful :)

I've actually followed everyone on CF for a long time, I just never joined. Then several HW members found out I followed what was going on over there and tried to get me to join. I didn’t need something else on my plate so I said no. Till Philli finally pushed me over the edge and made me join. I joined this week. So I have few posts. But I've read lots of your stuff in the past.

I don't know why I never mentioned it to you...? :x Maybe I thought I told you in the past. *has no idea* 0.o

I'll have to look over it again. There are some serious plot holes and it was left unfinished. ^^;; I'm not sure you want to read through it at this point and time. ;)

Thanks, Joe! I will eagerly watch those soon.

I'm glad you finally joined, Airianna. I think you will be able to add a valuable voice to some of the topics in the future.

Try me, Almond. ;)

Post subject:  Re: Screenwriting

The more I hang out with you guys, the more interested I get in screenwriting. :D The most I've done is directed some short skits with my sisters of some classic tales, like Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Little Red Riding Hood. But that was years ago, and I don't even remember actually writing out a script.

Do ya'll know of any websites or books that teach how to do screenwriting? I'd love to learn, but right now I don't have the time, money, or opportunity to take any formal classes on the subject. ;)

1 Do it.
2 Read something like "Save the cat."

Post subject:  Re: Screenwriting

Hang out on www.christianfilmmakers.org is a good start (that's how I started).

I like Save the Cat! but I didn't read it until over a year after I started screenwriting... I learned the majority of what I know from Calix, Kim, and the other screenwriters on CF.

It's really not hard. :)

A recruit!! My day is made! :D

I agree with the others. I knew absolutely nothing of screenwriting, except having read a few of Mel's scripts, when I joined CF. It's a wonderful community, very tolerant of newbie questions. I learned by asking questions, experimenting around, and reading other people's scripts. I've yet to finish a screenwriting book. Just try it! There's no harm in writing some pages of junk until you get your footing. If you get a free screenwriting software (I use Celtx), it will help you with the formatting.

I would absolutely love to show you a sample script and help you with your work, if you want. :D Just PM or email me any time.

April may have begun already, but there's still time to jump on board for Script Frenzy! For those of you who are doing it or have questions, check out this thread.

Happy writing! :D
