Welcome to the city of Desramoth! The capital of the Burgansies in West Zara. I'm here to introduce to you the flag and ranks of the Burgansies. Let's begin!

The flag of the Burgansies is an octagon with a smaller octagon in the middle. Each trapezoid area is marked off with each being one of the ranks of the Burgansies. The center octagon is white with a faint eagle on it and a rainbow/silver key over it. Starting at the top and going clock-wise the first mark off area is teal, then purple, pink, green, brown, red, blue and then gold. Each colored area had a different shape on it.

Teal: the flower of the Thantilae plant
Purple: the leaf of the Stark tree
Pink: the leaf of the Saelone tree
Green: the leaf of the Silver trees
Brown: the leaf of the Kintari tree
Red: the leaf of the Chachana tree
Blue: the leaf of the Saemonae tree
Gold: the leaf of the Yellaedu tree

The colored octagon is always on a field of black. The colors represent the 9 levels of learning/leadership in Burgansie culture (the white octagon is the highest level). The bird/eagle is actually the Jatul. A rare breed of eagles that live in the Janga mountains. The Jatul feathers are used by the Burgansies for writing. The key represents unlocking new knowledge.

Ranks of the Burgansies:
Within the Burgansies there are 9 levels of learning/leadership (the "lowest" or non-level is citizen. This is level 0) As a Burgansie learns more and takes on more response-abilities they gain higher levels. Each level has a different color. Depending on the level someone is in, that is the color they must always wear. Citizens are the only ones who can wear any color, though they wear mostly black and are not allowed to wear white. The symbols above are worn on the left shoulder or left-upper chest. Here are the levels:

None (level 0): Citizen (any color but white)
Brown (level 1): Initiate (only brown)
Green (level 2): Follower (only green)
Red (level 3): Learner (only red/maroon)
Pink (level 4): Student (only pink-ish colors)
Blue (level 5): Apprentice (only blue)
Purple (level 6): Teacher (only purple)
Gold (level 7): Master (only gold/yellow)
Teal (level 8): Wiseman/Wisewoman (blue shades)
White (level 9): Elder (only ones allowed to wear white)

Kk, I think that's all I got... I love questions (they make me think)!

Cool! So, they are a culture that loves knowledge, correct? Does anyone get "demoted"? And do the Elders wear a key on their robes? Let's see. *checks imaginary list* Nope, that's all I have right now. :D

I love those pictures, and the detail you put into them. This will be a great addition to your book Villi!

Yes, most of their time is spent finding new information and teaching children. They are very precise and like to keep all of history in order. Their many libraries are filled with the histories of many people.

A Burgansie cannot lose his learner rank because the ranks are based on their level of learning, not their "actions" you could say. Though most citizens learn up to a follower of student level of learning, they only receive the official rank if they choose to follow the Elders.
And no, the Elders don't wear keys ;) They believe that knowledge should be freely given to anyone who wishes to learn. No 'special' scrolls are kept from the public.

I'll have to tell you about one Burgansie in particular. He's kind of like my alter-ego in the world of Ashta  Gal-Teh the Learned of the Burgansies.

I like the idea :) It's cool how there's different levels of people, but instead of being stuck in one level they're allowed to become part of a higher level if they work at it. And cultures who love knowledge are always fun :D
