| I really like precious stones, I think they're really great and pretty special. I would love to give them a special role in my book and have special "properties" and stuff but I'm not sure how to do it in a non-magical way. I know real magic uses crystals and things for energy powers and things so I want to avoid that but I still want gems to have a place in my universe. Any suggestions? | |

| I have a gem/stone called the Atturnel (See the technology forum). It has different properties that make it special, but they're natural properties. Like diamonds being super hard. You could have certain gems be used as dyes when ground up into powder. Or ones that glow in the dark. Or can be used as glass. Or grows naturally in flower/other thing shapes. Or that can be forged into weapons. (Atturnal can be melted/forged into unbreakable armor). Is the inspiration going yet? | |

| I like gems, but the only ones I have so far in my story are three rubies embedded in the hilt of a sword, and a dwarfish gem mine. I personally like embedding them in things such as swords and armor, etc. Villise is much more creative than me. | |

| Those are some great ideas, Vilisse! Something else you could do, Riniel, is have a secret passageway that won't open without a special gem(s), or even have an object/weapon that would need some type of special stone/gem in order to work properly. | |

| The Dagger in my story requires a central gem to work properly; in essence, it's the gem that's powerful, not the Dagger, but it cuts both ways (no pun intended)--the gem only works with the Dagger. eruheran | |

| Nice ideas, Vili. Can you ship me an order of that? Riniel, maybe they could be ground up and used like chalk or paints; they colors could be really pretty, and maybe opaque. You might even use them to paint glass vases or something. | |

Maybe have the people make entire outfits from gems Stones that make music. Trees made out of gems (that you can chip away from). Snow is actually little gems/diamonds/crystals (so is rain?). books are written "in stone" - thin sheets of gem. | |
