I've come to a point in my NaNo novel where Hadwin begins to witness to Elanhil by sharing stories of his own life with the young man. Maybe this should go in 'Tips, Helps, and Suggestions,' but I want to know if it would be better to write out these little stories or just summarize them. Sample: Hadwin then told Elanhil about the time he was but a young lad, and first came to believe in the One. What do ya'll think? As readers, what would you rather read? |

Both. I definitely think you should write out some of the stories (especially if you need the words for the count "As they walked up the hill, Hadwin began to talk again about his childhood. He related more of the tales about the One he'd learned from his mother. They were all starting to sound the same to Elanhil..." Random example. Also, you might consider giving them an expanded summary. Instead of writing them out in real-time with dialog, but write out a short (paragraph or two) "plot summary" of Hadwin's tale in the narration. You can include just one or two pieces of dialog for color. |

Yeah, I'm thinking I'm going to write out a brief summary of his childhood life and then say later on that he told Elanhil about such and such a time that I had already summarized. Thanks Phili! |
