Describe a character in one word. This is difficult but really gives me a clearer picture of who they are. You can explain who they are and what role they play in your story at the end if you like. Arionwyn - naive Aaron - steady Iri - impulsive Klista - twisted Faulkner - dangerous And so on. I have a whole list, but that will have to wait a while.  Post some of your own! |

Ah, which stories to do? This is a good excersize. (Oh the insanity! I cannot spell that word and the spellchecker doesn't help! Epic fail! Oh me!) This is a wonderful idea! If you know your character well (or have already done some fractalling), it's not too hard to think of a word. But if you haven't yet dug into your character's personality and struggles... it forces you to think. It's the same sort of principle as a logline; the more compactly you can summarize an essence, the better you know it. Here are the lists from my two current fantasy novels... Alaidia Peter – proud Nathan – resigned Mark – naïve Simon – defiant Katrina – insecure Jason – loyal George – sorrowful Clara – bitter Edric – determined Saul – deceptive Faded (NaNo novel) Carter – trapped Arc – sarcastic Eliah – calm Kemuel – knowing Rogel – self-serving Shimei – deceptive Criet – faithful Josiah – insignificant Halen – unmovable |

I figured that this would be a good exercise to do for my next novel in progress, so here are my MCs: Thane - devotion Arran - rebel Raelle - hope I have two other characters for that story, but I have yet to figure out their "one word"s.
