| I need a language that is ancient enough to use for magic. I just need ideas on how to create it. Any ideas? Kenton D. Long | |

| The only help I can think to give is to suggest short words, 2 or 3 syllables in length. I don't know why, languages with short words seem older to me. Also when words end in vowels they seem older to me. | |

| Oh, and also if there are common endings. *Note: None of my advice is proven. It's just what me as a reader tend to think when I read fantasy languages. | |

| If your characters chant the words I'd use short, 'hard' sounding words. If it's more a smooth (incantation-like) speech I'd actually use longer words, or have your words easily tied into a bigger word to mean things. (i.e. rock=ach, paper=inar, scissors=aet; rock, paper, scissors = Achinaraet) This works best if all the words either start or end with a vowel and are only one syllable. | |
