I cannot remember the original name of this land. I changed it in all of my drafts, so I'll have to hunt down the original notebook tomorrow so I can tell you. All I know is that's it's unwieldy and cumbersome.

So I changed it.
To Zirg.

Well... some friends of mine read one of my drafts many years ago and couldn't stop laughing because apparently Zirg is something out of Toy Story.

So I'm changing it.

To what? I don't know, and I don't care. It's been under a spell, and is frozen solid and only one of the descendants of King Meline can break the spell, which Janin does of course. The entire capital city is under a large mountain of ice. But the name existed long before that.

Other kingdoms names are:
Yen
Layne
Tamara
Ramoth
Tarren

So you have a pretty good feel of types of names. Just random syllables... my imagination is fried right now and I can't think of anything. If it's of any use, the frozen king's name is Lemuel.

I think Lizzie's right... it's "Zurg." But it might be "Zerg." Either way, it's pronounced the same. He's Buzz Lightyear's enemy in the commercial products and is a nuisance in Toy Story 2 (he's not the main antagonist). Sorry, display of Pixar geekdom is over now. ;)

Why not just shorten it to Zir?

Good, she's working on Prince of Yen, just like she promised... :D

Zurg is the Toy Story villain, Zerg is the evil race of aliens in Starcraft. Yeah, it may be good to drop Zirg...

The original name was "Carin". (Hurrah for original originals... notebooks so old they were written in pencil, in the script form, mind you, with all the original song lyrics... )

I pronounced it 'carn' more often than not, which is when I switched to Zirg. But now, every time I write, "Bring back the crown jewels of Zirg," I see my friend laughing hysterically... :?

I like Zorn. I like Zarin. And Kriel is pretty good too. (can you tell I favor Z?)

The pixar geekdom was useful, Phili. Now we know. :D

"...defeat the evil Emperor Zurg, sworn enemy of the Galactic Alliance!"

*cough* Sorry. :D

"Zorn" sounds so much like "torn." I like "Zarin." Z is a cool letter. :D

Zriel (Kriel with a Z) looks too hard to say. :P How about Zarn?

Funny, when I read the word "Zirg" the Pixar character did not pop into my head at all. Maybe Zeerg?

Why is it that the letter 'Z' is associated with evil? At least it is in my mind. :P

Maybe because it sounds like a snake hissing? And snakes are normally bad (because they could bite you or be poisonous)

Names..... (because I feel I should contribute since I'm posting)

I generally like Z names but more for characters than countries. I gotta be contrary and like Zorn better than Zarin, which is softer and more like a person's name to me. I like the harder sound of -rn together.

I also like the original but spelled perhaps Carn to make it look how it sounds. ;)

Austyn is only six. Allowed to accompany her brother, Reina soon finds they're in deeper trouble than she thought. The Gold Wizard's fake beard is ripped off by attacking harpies, revealing he's only seventeen, not to mention his magical demonstrations tend to go awry. Unfortunately, with the Red Wizard's harpies and snakewolves on their trail, finding a new (and better) wizard mentor is hardly an option.
