:) Ok. Here is a new topic with some old and new pictures that I found and I base things in my story off of... I am a picture person, so I seem to find pictures that help me imagine even better, what my world looks like :)

Starting with Seravaile. Seravaile is the biggest city on Laishna and is populated by humans. It is a medieval city. The way it is designed is that there is a large castle in the middle for the Column members to live in. Around the castle is a few gardens and then a wall. Behind the wall is where the 'city' is. People live and work in this area. The closer you are to the castle, the richer you are. The city surrounds the castle except for the back, which is an exit from the castle to the forest beyond. After the city there is another wall for protection. Surrounding the whole city is farmland and houses for the farmers. I uploaded a Outline of the city...

I'd look at all the pictures, but this isn't my computer so I can't download them.

Thanks Sarah! :) I like the castle too, though it's not my favorite

I put the picture of the Sankore Mosque up there because I plan to use the building styles in an ice city I am creating, so I think that is my favorite. :)

A whole city of those buildings would be so neat! The idea of an ice world has always intrigued me. There's a lot of tension inherent in such a harsh environment, plus it is just plain cool. :) Is that a major part of your story's setting?

Yeah, those buildings really caught my eye, so when I thought of making an ice city, those buildings once again caught my eye. :) they aren't really a huge part, but the city is home to the elf-like race I created :)

Even if they don't play a big part, creative elements like the ice city can add a lot. And you never know when they'll take on a bigger role! Do you have a description of your elf-like race on one of the other forum threads? I'm always interested to see what new ground others take with old legends. :)

How'd you find such great pictures for your world?

Well, sometimes I google 'misty forest' or something like that. But usually, I find them by looking on Bing.com everyday. Bing's home page changes everyday and they are usually pretty stunning pictures, then I just save them to my computer. :)

Sarah: I haven't developed the Elf-like race too much yet, so I don't think I will post on them quite yet. :)

There are a lot of buildings similar to that one in Timbuktu here in tashkent. (not the architecture, the materials.) That was probably the most 'normal' pic there. :P

Well, I saw the picture and I instantly thought of making an ice-city with that type of architecture. :D

Right now where getting 100 degree weather, so I sure wish it was an ice city. :D

It does look like it would be fitting for an ice culture. That material (if it's what I'm thinking of) is generally well-insulated, but I know it's generally used more to keep heat out, not the cold, but I'm sure it would work.

Well, the houses are going to be made out of an out layer of ice and then a tan-colored mud/brick that will insulate the house, the sticks (? I will have to google how they are built) will still look the same when they stick out of the house. :D
Plus, the race is kind of built for that type of weather, so it doens't really bother them...
Though I think they will have brick-type fireplaces in their ice houses, but I would have to think of a way the ice house wouldn't melt by the heat... :) very tricky :D

that one house that you have a pic of probably isn't go-inable. Here those logs only stick out at the top, where they support the roof. (they are built by mud-bricks that are sun-dried. You may want to rethink this as the ice culture as it would be hard to dry them in the sun) I'm pretty sure mud is used as mortar, and is sun-baked to make one huge brick, sort of. So you could have huge fires built around them to dry the mud instead of using the sun.

Good thoughts! :D I don't really have that city planned out very well, since it is in the end of my story, so will keep working on it. :D

I totally understand that!

On another note, you should check out ICEHOTEL, a hotel made of ice in Sweden (yes, you can actually stay there)! You find out more at their website: http://www.icehotel.com/uk/ICEHOTEL/About-ICEHOTEL/. There is a similar hotel in Canada (http://www.icehotel-canada.com/). They may not answer any of your questions, but they are pretty amazing, nevertheless.

I have heard of those hotels, I saw one on the Travel Channel once. :) It would be really neat to stay in one, but I would probably be too cold. :D I will totally check out those links! Thanks! :D

I'm highly inspired by photography as well. I'm something of a collector of fine art photography... or I wish I was! I have a few books, love to browse others from the library, and bookmark sites & pictures. So many of them I would love to use as inspiration for books one day.

My favorite picture is the bridge. I can imagine what kind of epic scenes might go on there. :) Reminds me of some stuff from LoTR. Do you remember where it came from?

City plans look great. I can envision it perfectly.

Thank you, I am hoping that I can write about the city and make it as nice as I envision it. The bridge is the Bridge of Sighs in Yemen I believe :D
