Oh, dear Aussie, you know that's not how it works. I don't ask first. I just announce "I quoted you on Twitter." Except with 6-word stories and haiku. I try to ask first for those miniature bits of writing. Ridiculous quotes, however... if you say it on the forums, it's free game. *points to siggy*

Anyway... back to writing more epic Hemingways for me to gank, please. :D

The policeman hid the bloody knife.

His bulletproof vest saved him again.

"This coffin is uncomfortable," he muttered.

I want to try!
"But what if he doesn't come?"

"Its over; I'm here; you're safe."

"I don't know when my birthday is." Yes, I know that one has seven, but how could you shorten it?

Thanks! The first one is from the book I'm writing.
@Bethany - Yeah, that works!

Agreed with Sui - the coffin story especially got me wondering. Tom Sawyer-like prank was my hope ;) . Nice ones, Jon.

Very well done, as usual, Jonathan! :D

I like the birthday one as well! You could also shorten by saying "donno" instead of "don't know." Depends on whether you want a more fantasy/formal feel (go with Bethany's option) or casual/modern.

Thank goodness for that. :D

The death was sudden and painless.

The rose now held bad memories.

She destroyed the book she loved.

The invisible messages aroused her curiosity.

Thanks, and fixed. :D (I got used to counting syllables on my fingers... *switches back to words*) Reminiscent of the Chatroom at times...

The gun felt alien to him.

Her tears formed her letter's ink.

"It is finished." His last breath.

The mask hid her crying eyes.

Here are some fantasy six word stories that play with genre cliches:

The dragon surrendered the treasure willingly.

The elf’s last arrow flew false.

The dwarf sorely needed his axe.

Here's a couple others
"Is - is that how music sounds?" Got that idea from a book. :P

"Why're you crying?"
"You'd never understand."

"You look too old to be eight."

Bushmaid, I like your last one! It makes me imagine a thief regret what she's doing or something...

I like all of them but I especially like this one:
BushMaid wrote:

Here's some more I made up (all but the first one are made up on the spot):

Gasping breath. Ebbing life. Saying: "Finally..."

No one saw the restless shadow.

Ancient wisdom burned in a corner.

The die fell on it's corner.

Here are some more attempts. Enjoy. {6 words :) }

<><><><><><><><><>

The last drop of water shattered.

I held my breath a year.

Lost. It was the ultimate sacrifice.

Shadows come to life at night.

Found: single tear crystallized in amber.

"The world. Here. In my hands."

Thanks, folks! The shadow six-worder came from a poem I wrote about shadows breaking free of their chains at night... interesting concept, but horrible poem  !

Haha. :D

The bet was made- money forfeited.

He held her, powerless against death.

Her life slipped through his fingers.

He reached out his hand: faith.

Thanks. :) I'm sure everyone can identify with him in some way.

In His hand was strength: Joy.

The potion she drank was irreversible.

In his laughter he found healing.

The potential for greatness died hopelessly.

"Life is precious," she whispered softly.

BUSHEH! BUSHEH! BUSHEH! *dances excitedly* Can I use these? Can I? Can I? Can I? For a short story I'm writing because they fit the storyline perfectly can I? Can I? Can I? *pauses* Or do prefer the correct grammar... May I? May I? May I?

And so we don't go ENTIRELY off topic here.... Hemingways:
