Things started clicking together today for world building, like the magic and history of Amerouk. Things like 'Why is that character evil anyway'? And 'Why do people turn to the dark magic anyway?' or 'Why did I make the dark magic fueled with dark emotions and good magic with concentration anyway?". Well, all those questions have an answer now! :D Some very large factors are snapping together. Don't you love it when that happens? :dieshappy:

Yes I do love it when that happens! It's like everything's been swirling around in your head, sometimes without your knowledge, and suddenly different well-structured ideas pop up! (at least, that's how a similar thing happens to me)

Thus, I am very excited. So I am setting a goal for myself. To rewrite the history, magic, and curse posts in my sub-forum by the end of March. They were in shambles and in need of a rewrite before, but now the rewrite will be much better. I can't wait to start. :D

Cool! That's pretty quick...my one bit of advice is to start before the feeling fades...and before the passion dies down, if that makes sense...

I'll set a goal (publicly) too. I've been world-building sort of passively lately and want to kick it into high-gear. I wanna have my own world sub-forum by this Summer (if not sooner), I need to figure out what lives in the massive, (even more) unexplored places in Vadra, and hopefully figure out some historical stuff at least for humans, as well as get a little deeper in the cultural aspects...maybe anyway.

What I'm trying to say is: I am going to try and work harder and more on meeting the reqs for a subforum.

*is so delighted for Mae* That's fantastic! Go for it, dear! :D

Aiming for a subforum is an awesome goal, RunningWolf, and the requirements are a good way to gauge your progress with world-building. Getting a subforum is great incentive, too. ;)

Thanks! Yes, the subforum requirements will really help me even out some of my more neglected sections of world-building. Yeah, the subforum is an awesome incentive...when I first saw that section I was like:  ^_^ and then thought I need one!!!! So it's actually been my goal for awhile and has driven me to worldbuild, but now I'm hoping to really get going. :D

Oh yes, short stories! I submitted one this month, as planned, and now am doing a challenge with a friend to write another one soon, to submit in May. :)

Cool! Short stories are a good way to keep writing in between bigger projects. Have fun with that!

Yes, when I wrote that I planned to start that very evening. However, the power went out for most of Monday, and the internet was still out after the power came back for most of Tuesday. Thus I am only starting now. :P I'll still try, though.

My power went off Monday too, Azlyn. :P I know how frustrating that is.

Update on the story: I received my first rejection letter. I think that makes me a real author. :dieshappy:

'Twas a very nice rejection letter. :D And now I'm going to try submitting a couple other places, and meanwhile work on my next short. :salute:

Yuck, our internet turns off arbitrarily, but it's never done that...and we haven't had much of a power outage for awhile...oh well, extra time to brainstorm in the dark right?

Aww! You should frame it! I think you're a real author as soon as you write something...especially if it's a story! But still, the first rejection letter is a big milestone. Save it for when your story hit's the NY Times bestseller list and then sell the rejection letter on ebay! :dieshappy:

I'm off to work on magic some more right now. It's going quickly, since I already have the bones of the magic system, so I may or may not hit my goal. (I probably shouldn't set writing goals like this when I have so much extreme business happening, but it keeps me motivated. :D )

*Wanders off HW to get a snack then jump into world-building*

I submitted the story to another magazine, but their typical window for getting back about submissions is 3-4 weeks, so I won't know for awhile. Meantime I am writing another story, and getting ready for ScriptFrenzy. :)

I wrote about 300 words before getting stuck and trying to decide if I should discard a couple factors to the magic or not,and if I don't, how to make it work. Nothing too big, and I will do more later today. :salute:

The Curse is finished too! :D I had to revise my goal when a bunch of things decided to get in the way of my writing. So now I cut doing the history from my goal. It's shaping up to be really long. So Curse is done, and magic only needs a couple paragraphs added in. :D

I mean that I'm making progress–just not that fast. I have some thoughts down about how humans were created and fell in my world. They all became wanderers, though they are each a "wanderer" in a different way from the others, if that makes sense. :P

Ok, I did, I figured out a little more about how the first ones sinned and how they acted (and were punished) afterwards, but we went to a friends house for a BBQ at like 3:20 or something, so I had to stop. Anyway, I did work on it!

Thanks! I got a little more done this morning, too. Trying to allegorize the fall is hard! I'm sure I'll have to have someone look at it for theological criticism at some point, but for now I'm just praying for wisdom as I do it and being comforted that I can always fix any serious errors or false implications before the story should get published (it might not even come up in the stories in much detail anyway). :buhbye:

I think that's a good plan, Wolf. You want to be careful with your allegorical representations, but you don't need to get them perfect on the first draft. Keep moving forward, keep praying for wisdom, keep seeking advice when you need it, and just keep writing! Sometimes books need to go through a lot of rewriting and finessing before you hit it, but as long as you keep writing, it will come through in God's time.

You're right, thanks for the encouragement! Yeah, I need to remember that, while they are much more serious, theological mistakes are like any other mistake in that I can have someone smarter than me (or just another person) check it out, and I can fix it later, God's grace is sufficient. :?
Aubrey Hansen wrote:

Thanks for that reminder,
I think I need someone to say this to me every 15 minutes or so...lol but I am working on that, and the Dangerous Quest thing will be really helpful in that area I'm pretty sure. :?

I didn't get any more done on it today, it's been pretty busy went to see a kids choir from Mwamba singing worship songs, while dancing, it was awesome!, but I'm probably going to get some more tomorrow!

Well, if things go perfectly(enough) I will be doing laundry after I finish my breakfast (smoothie) and then my quick-list schedule-ish type thingy says I must: practice handwriting (something I really should know how to do by now  ), writing (during this time I think I'll work on my short story, hopefully get rid of telling and turn it into showing, etc), and practice piano (which actually means "play two songs that I used to know" for now, but hopefully that will get better...)
Yes, I'm looking forward to the quest too!...I'm a little nervous... ;)

What are your plans/goals for today?

Sounds like a plan! I expect a report at the end of the day, or tomorrow morning, y'hear? ;)

Right now I'm doing my blog/forum/admin work, and then I shall write this afternoon. Peter's Angel comes first, and then I want to get started on Script Frenzy. Beginning by rewriting the prologue for one of my scripts. If any time remains I might world-build, because I have a lot of ideas for new creatures thanks to browsing lolcats (no, I am not kidding) yesterday. :D

Ok, here it is, 'cause I'm going to leave in awhile and get back late, so I'm afraid it's pretty much the end of the day for writing purposes. :bawl:

I got more done on the humans in my world, though not a lot. But I figured out a few subgroups that would emerge from the Reyer (Ranger type people, and [some of them are] my unfallen section of the human race). And then I sent Andrew a hopeful PM about getting a subforum, I'm not sure if what I've discovered of Vadra so far is up to scratch or not, but I think it is. Maybe. ;) Oh, and I did get my other stuff done, pretty much anyway...my (previously injured) finger wasn't cooperating during piano though and I was having a hard time anyway, so you could say I didn't do very well on that (just including this so people know that I'm not hiding everything about my life that isn't perfect. ).

Nice! How did that go?

That's awesome! You did good today. :D Lemme know how your bargaining with Andrew goes. ;) I'm glad you remembered to drop an update. :D

So far I've written a synopsis for one of my scripts, which turned out much more complete than I expected. (I was just hoping for some vague notes...) I'm working on a Peter's Angel scene now. If I finish that I'll do a few script pages. :D

Sunday, I brainstormed for the Dangerous Quest's assignment, and then, after deciding on a direction to go, wrote a few sentences amidst an extremely busy day.

Today, I brainstormed a lot more, decided to dump my Sunday writing, brainstormed in other directions, repeated earlier decision of dumping and re-brainstorming and have now finally settled on a path to take. (I hope.)

Thank you! Uh...it turns out Andrew isn't in charge of them anymore, Reiyen is now, so I copied the message and sent it to him. :)

That's cool! I love it when that happens (you set out to do something, expecting you'll do all right, and then you do a lot better than you thought you would)! Glad you got time to write today. :D

Wow, that would be frustrating to have to keep trashing and re-brainstorming...I hope that the path you've found leads to an accomplished Quest! ;)

*chuckles* Actually, trashing and re-brainstorming is normal behavior, I just don't usually do that with drabbles.
Thanks! :D I think this plan will be much better. Good luck on your quest! :D

Well, today the menu is: Drawing practice, Blender (a sort of animation/modding/rendering program that usually drives me nuts), Writing (hopefully start working on my personal goal for the Quest this week, and somehow get it to go with the other short story I wrote about the same characters/setting), and worldbuilding! ...We'll see how much of this I actually get done, but hopefully I can at least touch on each subject today. :D How 'bout you?

Having a full list is good, even if you end up not getting through quite all of it. :D I'll be awaiting the report! ;) I mainly want to work on Peter's Angel today and get the pace moving with that. If I can get a good chunk done early enough, I will do some script work.

Today I wrote out a few sentences on a three-by-five that will end up (in some way or form) comprising the middle of the drabble.

Nice! I like how you take notes on little cards/pieces of paper, I do that too. The trick for me is to not lose them. ;)

I managed to write...I think around 26_<(insert some number over underscore, so about 260) words today...not much, but I was short on time (due, no doubt in part at least, to my horrible time management -skills)...how did you do Aubrey?

 I usually keep a stash and/or the cards I'm currently using in my Bible case so that I know where they all are. Many times the cards I have in circulation end up in my composition books as bookmarks, so that keeps them out of trouble as well. ;)

Even small progress is progress. :D
