Here's my reposting of my first essence map. The first one got deleted last night :( In the process of reposting it I did some editing so that it's a lot better than the original (in my mind anyway). This is a map I did for Corrin, one of the Stones of Power in Mythica. Corrin is the Stone of minds/perception that enables his wielders to read minds and travel outside of their body. I mapped his soul because the Stones of Power are semi-living things. They have souls, but don't have actual thoughts. They are both sentient and not sentient at the same time. Let me know what you think:

Body {Sight [Color (a liquid rose in a glass vase)
…………………………….(a shard of the setting sun)
…………………………….(a glowing coal)]
.................[Clarity (pitcher of Koolaid)
…………………………….(stained glass)
…………………………….(light through the water)]
………………...[Luster (the summer sun on the lake)
…………………………….(like glass splinters when sweeping up a broken dish)
…………………………….(sunset reflected off a dragonfly’s wing)
…………………………….(Labrador's eyes)]}
Cobha {Nature […..(the shock of a mountain view)
…………………………….(the mile in another’s moccasins)
…………………………….(wake up bugle)
…………………………….(the ray of light on the sleeping eye)
…………………………….(spotlight in the fog)
…………………………….(a peeling knife removing outer layers, exposing what’s beneath)]
…………Purpose [….(light house in a storm)
…………………………….(flashlight in a cave)
…………………………….(a new angle)
…………………………….(Gandalf)]}
Soul { [Color............(the red flame at the heart of a Ruby)]
….....Aspect [Gender (an old lighthouse keeper)
…………………………….(Strider the Ranger)
…………………………….(older brother)]
……………………[Role (the silent dog that guides the way)
…………………………...(silent point)
…………………………...(loving slap upside the head)]
……….Depth [………(German Shepherd’s eyes)
……………………………(an eagle’s cry)
……………………………(whale song)
……………………………(desert wind)
……………………………(starlit sky)
……………………………(coyote howl)]}

In Christ,
Jordan

Jordan, Excellent job!
I quoted my favorite parts of your map.
I love the depth of thought you've put into it.
The first part I posted up there about the penetrating nature
of the stone is probably the best in my opinion.

Very good word pictures. :)

I also liked the "loving slap upside the head" line... nice! lol

Keep up the good work!

The books or the music in which we thought the beauty was located will betray us if we trust to them; it was not in them, it only came through them, and what came through them was longing. These things—the beauty, the memory of our own past—are good images of what we really desire; but if they are mistaken for the thing itself they turn into dumb idols, breaking the hearts of their worshippers. For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited.

All the things that have deeply possessed your soul have been but hints of it—tantalising glimpses, promises never quite fulfilled, echoes that died away just as they caught your ear... We cannot tell each other about it. It is the secret signature of each soul, the incommunicable and unappeasable want . . . which we shall still desire on our deathbeds . . . ~C.S. Lewis

Thanks! It really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, and it was lots of fun once I got into it. And since "somebody" has challenged me, I'll have to work on some more :)
My favorite part was your favorite, the essential nature of Corrin. Working on this part helped me realize just what Corrin was and how he works. It even helped me realize that I had previously given him to the wrong wielder.
Thanks to you and to everyone for the encouragement.

In Christ,
Jordan

Wow, you did a really good job! Essence looks really intimidating until you do it. It's really not that hard!

Wow, I think that was one of the best essence maps I have seen on here so far! You use your imagination as a powerful tool.

I can't wait to see what you will do with ECSS++!!

Beautiful essence map, Jordan. I could really visualize Corrin, inside and out. Your essence map is also the first one to describe an inanimate object, so this is a trailblazer in my mind. Lovely artistry! I liked so many parts that I can't post them here without literally rewriting the map ;) .

By the way, can someone enlighten me on what ECSS++ means? Or is it something that I don't need to know? Guess I'm just nosy. ;)

Basic explanation. The system for mapping we use is called ECSS (I think it stands for Essence Cascading Style Sheet). ECSS++ is an advanced form of ECSS...I think :?

Very good. :) That is correct. The distinction is that this system that you are using is called ECSSbasic (or Xbasic), and the next version is ECSS++ (or X++).

It is very much more advanced. Lots of new features. It has exponentially greater power of description. :)

This is really great! Even though it's not a person, I can totally visualize it. :)
