OK, so I am writing a story and I was wondering if I should use a Dragon or Phoenix Bird as the boy's companion?

Dragons can be a little cliched sometimes...but I've never heard of a phoenix companion. I'd go with the phoenix, it's kind of a twist on the normal companion story. :D

Is the phoenix the bird that can revive itself?

I think either of those would be a good idea, but I don't know anything about the plot, so it would depend on maybe some of the stuff he has to do. A dragon is definitely stronger, but a phoenix is probably stealthier. They're much smaller than a dragon.

Anyway, It sounds like a cool book, although I've only heard a small bit about it. Post some excerpts!

I am not the best writer in the world. The Phoenix/Dragon is going to be the boy's companion in the "Dragon Wars of Amaranth". They will not only fight together, but become close friends. I can send you an excerpt after I edit some, which will be in a few seconds... =D

Here is another question: Should the Phoenix/Dragon be able to talk?

I don't know. It would certainly make it easier for them to become friends. I also agree with eruheran, a phoenix is more creative than a dragon.

So I should use the Phoenix?

I personally think it would be quite creative.

That's my advice. Oh, and I couldn't open the message you sent me, so could you send it again?

Do you mean it would be more creative for them to become friends if they couldn't talk? Maybe, I don't know. It's your story.

I love your avatar, by the way. Where did you get it?

I'm saying it would be creative if the Phoenix could talk.

I was just saying that the Phoenix does revive itself.

I wasn't able to open your PMs, Falcon Lord. It said you deleted them before I received them?

Ah OK that's what I thought. If a message is still in your outbox then that means the receiver hasn't opened it yet...in other words, if you delete it, they won't see it. If it is in your 'sentbox' (I think that's what it is called) then the person has already received it and you can delete it with no problem. Make sense :D

I have a question, is this phoenix like in the myth where it is the only one? Because if it is that would be much more significant plot-wise than if there are whole flocks of phoenixes flying around, however that would also probably make the phoenix much more powerful, possibly upsetting the balance of the story. Just a thought.

Usually there is only one Phoenix alive at a certain time, then when it is about to die it lays an egg, thus recirculating one at a time, BUT, yes there is a but. There is no limit to how many can be in a book, because it is only a myth.
Hope this helps!

The Pheonix is a great idea! :) I think that it should be able to "Mind-speak" instead of outloud or not-at-all... but that's just my opinion. :)

I like the idea of a talking Pheonix :D How you want it to talk is up to you... you can make it speak, mind-speak or the pheonix could just use images or emotions to speak. It's up to you :)

You're very welcome. I use the mind-speaking one for my characters... it adds a new idea to the character :D

So, my question was if there are multiple phoenixes in your story, and if I understand you correctly the answer is yes, right? So, what abilities will your phoenixes have, and how big are they? Are they the size of a hawk, larger like an eagle or bigger than any birds that we have today?

In my book, the Phoenix that I tamed was 13ft tall with a wingspan of 20ft, I am thinking of making it able to shrink to any size though. I'm not really sure if I want the girl I meet to have one, so maybe there will only be two, a male and a female Phoenix.

That sounds cool! I've never heard of a phoenix changing size before, very unique and innovative! Also, it would make sense and match the myth a little more to have just two rather than tons of them flying around :D

I was thinking the size change, so that they (Phoenix's) wouldn't have to take up so much room, but also be big enough as a companion fighter.

Sounds sweet! One question: does it have flames coming off of it and if it does, does it have them all the time?

They do have flames, they can allow the flames to only burn certain people, in this case Justin and Grace did not get burned. ;)

The Counsel had said it would be soon, for there were terrible forces at work in the east, so they said."

Wait! Which one? Sorry, I asked a double question, let's try that again. Can he stop radiating flames? Or did you mean it was both?
