Here is another clip from my glossary.

Aerala: (pronounced AIR-all-uh) The Aerala, or Spirit Givers, are people with a special ability, much like Dains. Their spirits have the ability to be given away and regenerate. Thus, they are in some cultures called Life Givers. If a person is wounded and dying, their spirit is already beginning to leave. The Aeralan will cup his/her hand around the wound and a channel is opened between their spirit and the wounded person. There is a white glow and the fresh smell of spring right after a rain as the spirit passes into the wounded person. The wound is healed and the spirit is replenished. This will weary the Aerala for a bit, until their spirit has regenerated itself; the time this takes depends on how much spirit was taken. It is possible for a Spirit Giver to die; if they are injured severely enough that their spirit cannot replenish itself, or if they give away too much of their own spirit when healing a person. Once a person has been healed by a Spirit Giver, that person has part of the Spirit Giver’s spirit and so they know some of the Spirit Giver’s heart. If it was a small healing, they mainly acquire the ability to know what the Aeralan is going to do. If it was a large healing, they tend to know quite a bit about the Aeralan’s heart, and sometimes they even develop a psychic link. Aerala tend to travel and live alone, though sometimes they will join in a group. They prefer not to let people know about their abilities, and pass as shadows through the world. Aerala also have an extended life span, and are nearly immortal. Thus, some that are humans have married elves. Singular: Aeralan

Incredible! Great (and original - that's always a plus) idea!
Questions: Is the ability hereditary? Are the Aerala selected? Can they give Spirit to each other?

Wow! You did an amazing job on these!
Are the Aerala cautious with their abilities because they don't want too many people to know their heart?

These are really good questions. Unfortunately, I have only recently created the Aerala, and the only question I can answer is, yes, they can give Spirit to each other. However, I will think over the other questions and develop answer for them as well. Again, thank you. This is very helpful to me. :)

In Christ,
E

Oh my...it sounds like being Aerala could be a curse! You'd have all these people so intimately linked to you, and they could spy on you, and YIKES!

I can understand their wanting to be alone!

(awesome idea btw.;))

lol.

This is really neat. And highly creative. I'm interested to find out how this turns out. :)

I like this concept Elestar!

I wondered if the Aerala had to do anything specific
to recuperate from a healing exercise.
It seems there could be a good parallel there
for our Christian walk.

They could just "recharge" automatically of course,
but my first thought was that they would have to
"go to the source" to replenish their spirit.
Just a thought!

The books or the music in which we thought the beauty was located will betray us if we trust to them; it was not in them, it only came through them, and what came through them was longing. These things—the beauty, the memory of our own past—are good images of what we really desire; but if they are mistaken for the thing itself they turn into dumb idols, breaking the hearts of their worshippers. For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited.

All the things that have deeply possessed your soul have been but hints of it—tantalising glimpses, promises never quite fulfilled, echoes that died away just as they caught your ear... We cannot tell each other about it. It is the secret signature of each soul, the incommunicable and unappeasable want . . . which we shall still desire on our deathbeds . . . ~C.S. Lewis

I haven't decided. I might make it that way, since the Ariger are incapable of good.

I don't know. Maybe. If you think about it, Adam and Eve were capable of sin before the Fall. My original idea was just that Aerala replenished spirits with their own, not that they were holy, unfallen beings. I might just stick with that for now.
