So, I just wondered if any of you had considered putting your essence maps into song form. :)

I haven't exactly, but after long and hard searches, I have found songs that I have been able to put into my essence maps. :)

My favorite ones are in my signature.

What about you all? :dieshappy:

Nessa- She's given up the veil, the vows she'd sworn, abandoned every effort to conform. Without a word to anyone she's gone her way alone, a dove escaping back into the storm.

Nolan- And though I don't understand why this happened, I know that I will when I look back someday, and see how you've brought beauty from ashes, and made me as gold purified through the flames.

Azriel- And who do you think you are, running round leaving scars, collecting your jar of hearts, and tearing love apart? You're gonna catch a cold from the ice inside your soul, so don't come back to me. Don't come back at all...

Hmm, I love this idea, Willow. I should try it sometime!

Oh, this could be seriously beautiful. Would you add filler, so it wouldn't just be a song crammed full of metaphors?

When I was composing my elven lullabye, I started building a kind of essence to provide fodder for the lyrics. It wasn't very conventional, but I was using the concept. I would take a feeling or an impression I wanted to include, and then list things that reminded me of it. It's been a long time since I wrote a proper essence. [Context: the elves were fleeing the humans who wanted to kill them, and they built a magical barrier to keep the humans out.]

Peace -
  moonlight on leaves
  rivers/rivercity
  new life in the fields
  precious children safe now
  Starflowers

Safety -
  white trunks: fence posts
winding paths in the forest; maze of lies
first harvest in the solitary land
  Elchion's wisdom

Reassurance -
  future, magic dome
   no change
   no pain
   no time
  Quintor, invisible like the dome
  Faithful's magic
dancers at a festival: bright and fast and orderly

Lament -
Portals taking them far, far away
  white trunks, prison bars
  alone
Tahaidan drums, calling those who will die
  the white star dimming (Faithful)
  embers of pyres
yellow stone, blood, empty elven Level, lost throne, Kalon, misunderstanding

It may not make much sense to anyone who doesn't know my world, though.

What about using essence to actually compose music? As in, the actual notes? You could give each note an essence and work from there...that's an interesting and possibly impossible idea. :book:

Whew...that's a really interesting idea. I can't even think how that would work, really....

I think a song crammed full of metaphors would be cool. * grin * Kind of like one of the entries to one of the earlier writing contests we did...I can't remember who it was, but someone wrote a poem about the eclipse of the moon. If I remember right, it was heavily metaphorical. I loved that poem.

That's a brilliant idea...I should do that when I'm having problems with a poem.

* wanders off pondering the idea of making an essence song *

A song full of metaphors like this one? ;) Although, these are technically similes.

Ohh, if only there was some way... Music can express essence without any words, so I think to at least some degree it would be possible. If you could arrange the scales with metaphors... Maybe something like Listen to Wikipedia?

*pondering*

Oops? ;)

If there was some way to categorize types of essence-shards by instrument, and then weave together the notes.... Hmm.
