I'm getting ready to start Nano, so I've been snatching up tips about outlining that seem to make sense and help me. You might have heard of them all before, but I was encouraged to share.

The Snowflake Method...I'm pretty sure this has its own thread. What I found the most useful from it is have a list of scenes on excel. Also, it goes really well with the next part.

Story Structure Series(link)...10 part article series that talks about have major plot points in your novel. I write the main points in another column next to the list of scenes on excel.

Brainstorming in Word...For whatever I'm writing I generally write down any and all ideas I have in Word. After that I start asking myself questions. Why is this character doing this? What happened before? Who is this guy's best friend? I keep the questions in bold until I've answered them. Some I won't be able to answer until later, so I just leave it bold for a while.

Hope that helps. If you have any questions, I can try to help more. :dieshappy:

Wow, Symph, that's great. I like how in-depth your planning is. I'll definitely implement those when I start outlining my next series. :)

Thanks for sharing, Symphony! I'll keep these in mind and try to apply them. I think I'll need them a lot this NaNo, and for the rest of the books I'll be writing. :D

Thanks! I'll review those methods.
The link doesn't work though. It comes up page not found.

I've looked at the Snowflake method, but I've never used it.

I do the brainstorming though, except in a notebook, and the asking of questions.

Do you prefer to write by hand as well, or just with brainstorming?

Only in brainstorming. I never learned cursive, so printing gets tedious after about ten pages.

Ah. I find cursive even more tedious than printing, but that's just me. I don't do it enough, though. I'm not shocked, I just like that face.

I don't know cursive, so I couldn't really tell. FOr the actual drafts, I always type them.

(It is a cool face.)
