And it’s not “a mute point,” as I thought when I was younger. A moot point, as everyone knows, is an issue regarded as potentially debatable, but no longer practically applicable. I suppose a mute point would be a point that no one ever spoke about.
We think a lot about marketing in the publishing world, or really any world where you’re trying to sell something. And rightly so. Marketing is a vital part of selling. After all, if people don’t know about your product and become convinced that they must have it, and that it’s worth whatever price you’ve put on it, then you won’t sell anything, and you will be a failure as a businessperson.
But really, without a good product, marketing is a moot point.
