Arians are in general have small, light frames. They have broad shoulders, and their hands are small, nimble, and strong from years of hard forced labor as slaves to the Orêdrins. Arians have thick, dark, wavy/curly hair, and their eyes are many different shades of sparkling blue. They tend to have snub noses, and a sprinkle of freckles across their foreheads, cheekbones, and the bridge of their nose.

In old stories, it was said that Arians were gifted by the Maker, Elniar, to work with dragons. One notable family with this gift was the Kandra family. So deep was the love between the Arians and the dragons that the dragons made sure each Arian child had a dragon companion from it's first year of life before a child from any other race was allowed to have one as it's companion. Another gift of Elniar in this relationship between a dragon and an Arian was that when a child found it's dragon companion, a small stone with a hole all the way through it appeared beneath the child's pillow the next day. The stone's color matched the shade of the dragon exactly, and it was made into a necklace that the Arian wore for the rest of his life. It was also said Elniar gifted the Arians with mindspeaking to communicate with the dragons, but since their captivity, it is believed this gift has been lost. The Arians grew proud in their gifts, and looked down on the other races because of their gift. They took credit for what was not their own. No Arian has seen a dragon in hundreds of years. However, the Arians hope and dream that one day one will deliver them from their captivity and their relationship with the dragons will be renewed.

Hmm...very Eragon-ish in premise, yet unique in its own ways.

I've only read the first Eragon book, so that is interesting that it seems somewhat similar. Hmm...

And now that my story is developing, I have figured out that Dani does NOT have a "mindspeaking" gift. She has dreams, and can use pictures instead.

This helps me understand your first two chapters. Now I have a little back-story in my mind.

I think it's a good thing that I now know the back story. I'm sorry; maybe I didn't understand the question. :?

These sound good. So your main character is one of these? How were they brought into slavery and did none escape?

Yes, my MC and her brother are Arians (they are Kandras, actually). Uh, I haven't entirely worked that out. I will have to do that. Thank you for bringing that (rather obvious) point to mind that escaped notice... Ah, plot twists. I know they are slaves all over Dor (man, I need to post maps!).

But how did they become slaves and are there none who aren't slaves?

I'll work on it, I'll work on it! ;) I will figure that out as soon as I get a chance. Right now I am packing for school tomorrow...

All right, I have come up with a bit more at 10 at night, so we shall see how this answers your questions. ;) I'll probably rework it when I get a chance and add it to the original post.

Along with their snobbery of the other races, the Arians fell to quarreling amongst themselves, distancing themselves from their dragons. They became disunified, and separated into smaller groups. This caused their communication skills to weaken still further. This was what the Orêdrinis had been waiting for. They attacked the dwindling Arians one by one, and conquered them. They took over the Arian province of Streane, and enslaved the Arians. The other races participated in this market, and soon slaves from other races were being bought and sold as well.

Please describe the other races, if you will. And do submit a map as an attachment.

So what did you not like about your previous explanation Shawn, just for curiosities sake? Why did you decide to scrap it? My question isn’t really a question I suppose; I was just wonder what made you change your mind. I know, I can be confusing at times.

@ Kenton: I am roughing them out. I need to get a more defined idea in my head... Plus my map needs work... :P

@ Airianna: I'm not sure that this explanation is the best for my story right now. I'll have to work it out... World building. ;)
