Ok, Zayfen is what this is about, but to explain this, you should have a picture of who he interacts with.

My other characters have personalities as follows:

Ophelia: human; main character; leader, insecure, struggles with trusting, protective of what she loves, doesn't believe in God.

Kri: shape shifter dragon; Ophelia's dragon; teasing, fun loving; understanding of Ophelia's struggles, acknowledges that there is a Creator.

Francesca: human; doesn't care about her appearance (wears baggy pants, barefooted at all times), uses unique phrases like "That's happiness!", free spirited, loves things like frogs and toads, strong Christian who expresses faith well.

Saphieka: shape shifter dragon; Francesca's; needs to stay presentable, is slightly vain, likes to tease, acknowledges there is a Creator.


Jared: human; protective of sister to the point of anger, forgiving, likeable, newer Christian.

Fantor: Shape shifter dragon; Jared's; easily angered by Kri, highly protective, tough outside but truly cares about the group, VERY self reliant, acknowledges the Creator.


Audrey: human, Jared's little sis; daring, jumps before thinking, is in constant motion, loves science and joking around, Christian.

Alana: Shapeshifter dragon; Audrey's; says wise things, doesn't talk much 'cause prefers to listen, graceful, soft spoken, phantom like gliding walk, acknowledges the Creator.

Denise: human; needs acceptance to the point of domination, is afraid of dragons but hides it by acting tough, doesn't want to be part of the group, not a Christian, but accepts sooner in the story.

Zayfen; shapeshifter Dragon; Denise's; (not yet written into the story); calm, steady, wants Denise to like him. . . What can you think of that would make him have something unique? He is likable, he just needs a habit or an interest that makes him special. I am going to have him and Denise die, with her being the cause, what she did will be explained, but he needs to be especially likeable because of it. The reader needs to see something special that makes them sad he is dead.

I think just making him generically friendly would work. All the other dragons have this or that, but maybe he's just a kind dragon. That could also make him wonder why Denise doesn't like him because everyone likes a kind person.
