A nondescript young woman walks into a room teeming with people. She carries a large scroll with pens, quills, and laser pens of various shapes, sizes and colors. As she approaches the table in the middle of the room, a young man enters from behind her.
The young man wears a herald's uniform that is strangely out of place, yet very fitting to the occasion. He seems to be a man out of time, yet still in time. He watches the young lady as she places the scroll and various writing implements on the table.

"Behold," he announces in a loud, commanding voice, "today is this realm's fifth birthday party. Here, in this room, you will find many fun things to do. Play wisely and live fully. Before you begin, however, there is just one thing the Ruler desires from you: your signature. Please line up and sign the scroll. There are plenty of different writing implements for you to use. Choose wisely and long live this fair realm!"

The announcement being made, the herald held his arm out for the young lady and she hooked elbows with him. Together, they left the room.

Dips quill in the wooden ink pot set at the top of the table, and carefully writes:

Today on the 25th of October 2014, I, Lady Elanor, was at the celebration of Holy Worlds fifth birthday.

Signed,

Lady Elanor

A shadowy figure, almost unrecognizable, phases in and out of appearance as he floats to the book. A sometimes invisible hand pulls the quill out of its pot and begins to write in small letters on the side of a page...

On October the 25th in the year of our Lord 2014, I, the Leprechaun King of this fair land, was almost here.

Suiauthon Mimetes

A sudden small gust of wind picks up and the man bleeds away into the wind. The man's hand is the last to disappear and the quill softly falls from his grasp into the waiting ink pot.

A tall young man with untidy black hair, still glistening wet, garbed in white, hastens distractedly into the room, glancing at his watch, and narrowly avoids tripping over a white rabbit that bounds across his path. He steps up to the table and writes:

Ego, Jonathan (rex-joannes) Lovelace, Poet Chronographusque in Terrae Cycli Candentis, historiae Vaynahimis, Regni Apricitatis, Imperii Candentis Rudisque, et terrae rerumque conexarum, hic in communionem virtualis qui se vocat Mundi Sacri hoc die aniversarii quinti conditii (celebratur) VIII a.d. Kalendae November anno Domini MMXIV.

(I, Jonathan (kingjon) Lovelace, Poet and Chronicler in Earth of the Shine Cycle, history of Vaynaheim, the Sunshine Kingdom, the Shine and Wild Empire, and associated countries and events, was here in the virtual community calling itself Holy Worlds on the day (observed) of the fifth anniversary of its founding, October 25 of the Year of our Lord 2014.)

To that legibly-printed paragraph, the young man adds a nearly indecipherable scrawl that must be his name, then a blob of wax which he marks with a silver seal. He then steps back from the table, again blinking a tear from one eye when he sees the notable absences from the room. And in a flash of light, additional text is automatically appended to the page.

A figure appears from nowhere in the corner of the room, dressed in a ragged, dark-moss-green cloak, their face hidden in the shadows of the hood. The glitter of two eyes and a few stray wisps of brown hair are the only facial features noticeable.

Vanishing for a moment and then reappearing at the table, the figure checks to make sure the dagger beneath their cloak is still there. Reassured, they procure a fiery-coloured phoenix-feather quill and hold it in a surprisingly delicate grasp. The figure sets the tip to the paper and scrawls down in a flourish:

This 25th of October in the year 2014,
the Dark Golden Dreamer was here and then gone.

The figure flicks their wrist and the phoenix-feather quill vanishes. There's a quiet laugh, a flicker of reddish-purple light, and then the figure disappears.

Why must we line up?

(Surprised note: I wrote this before I read Jonathan Garner's post, honestly, I did. Apparently I am the giant friendly spider he is referring to? I did not realize someone had sneaked a ride...
You are quite dexterous and stealthy Mr. Jonathan!)

I wasn't here, but I did poke my nose in momentarily in honor of times past.

A figure clad in silver armor descends from space, burning through the atmosphere and then slows to a stop using rocket-boots, scorching the floor, and then lands softly and saunters to the register.

I. Varon, wander of the celestial marches, star-diver, and warden of the black holes, did take a break from my solemn duty to attend this celebration.

A young woman appears with dark circles under her eyes and a stack of stack of notes in her arms. Her smile, however, is mostly unchanged. Attempting not to drop her papers, she manages to scrawl a note with one of the waiting pens.

I, Shawn, Glitter Princess within these halls, was here on October 26th, 2014. Well, sort of, and late as per usual...

With that, she collects her stack of papers into its unorderliness and vanishes softly, only a few flecks of glitter and the signature remaining...

Miss Elizabeth, AKA Faith Blum, Nadia Cilic, and other secret names was here at least in spirit each day of the party, though not necessarily in body.
