(Weekly Challenge #315: Write something about church bells without using the words bell or church.) BONG ... BONG ... BONG. The deep, rich tones carried for miles across the valley and called the faithful to worship. Ding-Dong. Ding-Ding-Dong. The worshipers loved the melody created by the medium tones. Ting-a-ling, ting-a-ling. Sang the high sharp notes, too high a pitch for most of the older ears to still hear. Everyone enjoyed the carillon, but many wondered why the maker had bothered to create tones that none could hear. The preacher preached and the parishioners listened and outside, a soft wind blew. The wind was too soft to create a BONG. The wind was too soft to create a Ding-Dong. The wind created a faint Ting-a-ling, ting-a-ling that none could hear. On the back row, a mother tried to settle her infant, when the infant heard the ting-a-ling, ting-a-ling ... and smiled, listening contently to the unheard song. All the people wonder why the Maker created a carillon with notes that most people can’t hear ... does He know something that we don’t? |

Glad you liked it. I was striving to be metaphorical for the Body of Christ. Some people are LOUD and have a presence that cannot be ignored. When working alone, they impact far beyond the doors of the church and when working with others, they lead the way. Many more people are like the Medium Bells that individually mean little but were created to be at their best when working together to create the rich harmonious music that is the community of the Church. Yet there are a quiet few whose purpose seems a mystery to the Body of Christ. The masses cannot perceive what purpose they serve since they are neither LOUD nor in Harmony ... they are almost invisible. Yet just because WE cannot see their purpose, does not mean that THEY have no purpose. It means that God created them to fulfill an invisible purpose (from our perspective) that may be all-important to someone else. |

It also spoke to me of God's communication; just because someone else can't hear what God is saying doesn't mean God isn't saying it. There are times when the Body of Christ, as a body, needs to hear the same thing. Other times God whispers in ways just for us. |
