I've been watching a lot of Donnie Yen movies lately, due to senioritis and other things, and I just lately watched Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhu, which is set at the beginning of the Sino-Japanese War. Or, as some people say, the very beginning of World War II.

That got me thinking. It's such an interesting period of history, given the enormous amount of international and different ideological influences in China at the time. For Shanghai, it was the Roaring 20s well into the 30s. China was still a Republic, yet its armies were feuding with each other. The Communist party was only beginning its work.

It definitely got ideas going for me as a writer, especially pulling from my idea about the air circus spy ring.

Have any of you come across any books set in this time period? Or good resources?
