I am considering writing a series of fairy tale retellings set in the time of Kings David and Solomon. Does anyone know of any good resources for learning about the culture and life during that general era?

I'll be interested in the responses. My church offers culture classes at their school of ministry--because they're essential for truly understanding the whole Bible--but that's not really helpful for anyone who doesn't want to come live with me for a semester.

As much as I'd love to live with you for a semester, I don't think it would be very practical for me or you, especially with my pretty major diet restrictions. And I just got an offer from someone who went to Bible college and still has his OT textbooks AND is willing to help me research it! So hopefully I can find out at least most of what I'm going to want through that. Otherwise, I'll see what other people have to say.
