The Cartographers are a private map-making organization. Teams are sent out to explore the world both known and unknown, discovering, updating, and charting. It is inadvisable to venture anywhere without a cartographer's map, and unthinkable to venture into uncharted territory. Cartography documentation can be exceedingly expensive for less popular areas, or for extended documents. Popular maps are common enough to be affordable, but the more dangerous a place the less likely it is any cartographer will venture into it, so such maps are rare, incomplete and very pricey. Famous cartographers of old often made their maps on solo expeditions, hiring their own guides and paying for their own gear. Modern cartography guidelines insist on teams using approved cartographer equipment, but the yearning for adventure still continues. The only solo cartographers are those who work in well-known, well populated areas keeping up with new buildings and writing what essentially amount to tourist guides. Freelance authors can also contribute tourist pamphlets for consideration by the Cartographers Publication Department. |

Very nifty. Are there any special tools considered absolutely necessary for the more dangerous expeditions? |
