My original goal with this book was to use it as a prison ministry. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get that started?

And I completely forgot to send a copy to Jay, which is embarassing. If no one else has done that yet I'll go do that now.

One thing might be for HWers to send it to any relatives or friends who happen to be in prison.

Hmm. o.O *had been wondering about that himself* I have a friend who is in prison, but I think he believes fantasy is evil. Don't prisons take donations? Of course, there's the very tiny detail of paying for the books... :P Would setting up a donation thing for the effort (so we can buy copies to donate) be a good idea?

Maybe some Christian prison ministries would be willing to partner/sponsor it

You'd have to find the right prison ministries. Most Christian run ones would frown on a fantasy forum.

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

The Diegosian Rider, 121,400 words (Finished)
The Diegosian Warrior, 15,000 (In Progress)

My college might have a prison ministry or two that might be interested. I'll have to look into it once the fall semester starts up.

You could contact Daniel Schwabauer, the creator of One Year Adventure Novel. I believe he had a prison ministry distributing comic books at one point. He might be able to help or at least give suggestions.

I emailed NGJ, who has a prison ministry, for advice. They said:

Quote:
As the publisher you are allowed to send materials directly to prisons and prisoners. I suggest that you contact the chaplains with an offer to supply their library with the book. This take more effort but reduces waste of books. Your other option is to just send the copies with a letter of introduction asking the chaplain to put it in the library. The benefit of this is that it saves time but the downside is that if they are not interested the book will be discarded.

And the sales from said book are supposed to pay for the donations of said book. We just have to track both reasonably.
