I really liked this movie. It was definitely SciFi romance rather than an action/scifi with romantic elements. Though the film seems to be controversial in some review circles. I can see why it sparks discussions on ethics but I appreciated how humanly flawed the characters were and didn't think it detracted from the story at all.

So many good films out lately! This is another one we want to watch; Mother wants to see it as well, so might be a girls night to the cinema whilst Grandad babysits Amy.

Do you folks have any more developed opinions on this movie? I have avoided it as it seemed like nothing but an SFX extravaganza with some Jennifer Lawrence + Chris Pratt shenanigans stapled on.

My experience is it has been a rather polarizing movie. Some people just hate it (I've seen it called psychological horror) but I really liked it a lot. While most of the movie is in many ways just how you described it, there's another layer that explores the ethical quandary when a person has a choice to be alone forever or condemn someone else to a similar fate. The selfish desperation of loneliness and depression. Many people condemn the lead character's actions without putting themselves in his shoes - and his attempts to make it right in the end.

There's also some nudity and sex though not explicit and alcohol consumption.
