All you had to say was "Benedict Cumberbatch" and I was there.
It was fantastic. It was a different take for Marvel, not only because it's the first cinematic film to accept "magic" as canon (which opens up a lot of additional comic lines that can be included, which I agree is exciting from a story perspective), but Doctor Strange is definitely more antihero than most--and not in the way Deadpool and (to a lesser extent) Ant Man are. Benedict was sarcastic, rude, and prideful, and made massive mistakes. He brought this on himself, whereas a lot of heroes have circumstances thrust upon them (Cap), or make mild mistakes which are further complicated by outside circumstances (Iron Man, Thor). No, Strange was being arrogant and
"texting and driving," and he had it coming. I thought that was unique and fascinating to watch, even if it wasn't nearly as much of a tear-jerker/feel-good movie as, say, Cap's movies are.
The visuals are astounding, also.
For the record, I enjoyed it a lot, and there were some excellent thematic elements explored too. 
I've heard this about Trolls. XD Aww, you should get your husband to take for date night sometime.
