I know there were a lot of mixed reactions to this film when it was announced, and even the various trailers sent mixed messages about how "serious" the film would take itself. But, nevertheless, I can't pass up zombies, so we went to see it shortly after it was released.
Although there were a few weak links in the plot, I have to say that I really enjoyed it! I thought it was a great balance between period drama, zombie horror, and sarcasm ("we're going to misquote the book with perfect irony"). The movie also had a very unique representation of the "science" of zombies (namely, they don't turn immediately and retain some of their identity at least for a time). It is also one of the few movies that go for POST-apocalyptic; by the time of the movie, the zombie virus has been going on for several years, and it has become a fact of life, but society is still very much functioning. Most books and movies are either about the onset of the virus (World War Z), or society has been completely obliterated (The Walking Dead), so this was a fresh take.
Have you seen it? Have you read the book? What did you think of either?
