For general discussion and speculation of the show Supernatural.

I'm very aware that this show is not to everyone's tastes and this thread is not a blanket endorsement. (I recommend for people who don't mind a bit of horror who are over 16) I myself spend quite a bit of time while watching it in another tab...

As mentioned in another thread the mythology in Supernatural is very Judeo-Christian as are the themes, in my opinion. In seasons 4-5 they tackle the Apocalypse. It's not as good as Good Omens but it's definitely well-done.

The best character in the entire show is Castiel. His arc of searching for his purpose in life as well as searching for God is really interesting. Also, I have to say that the actor who plays him is very talented and gets to play multiple characters on the show.

I withhold my opinion on seasons 6-8. =P Here's hoping they get their act together.

To anyone who wonders: no, the angels do not have real wings on this show. It's very sad but understandable considering the budget.

I love Supernatural. :D Unfortunately I've only watched the first two seasons... need to borrow the rest from a friend, I think she has up to season 5.

Also, got into classic rock because of this show. xD

That's because season 5 is pretty much the pinnacle of the show... XD

It's on Netflix too if you have it.

We don't have Netflix at the moment because we don't have good enough internet to do streaming, and there weren't DVDs Mom wanted, so she closed the account for a few months. But hopefully the new tower will be up soon and we can get better internet :D

I have seen some Supernatural, and I do love the characters. I have spent some sleepless nights after being disturbed by some of the content, haha, but I'm easily upset by supernatural things.......But that doesn't stop me watching some occasionally. :) And I have enjoyed a lot of the episodes that I've seen.

Revised review:

I'm really getting tired of the writers not knowing what the plot is in Season 8. There have been some good plots in seasons 7 and 8 but they were too short and abandoned quickly. They just need to figure out what they want the show to be about and GO WITH IT ALREADY. **cough**

Also I feel like in recent episodes it's been far too soapy and not enough real character development. I like Sam and Dean, I really do. But recently the only character I actually care about has been Castiel and even that is starting to waver as

I suspect the only thing keeping the show afloat is the abundance of Destiel shippers. **sigh** In my opinion, aside from that I have a big problem with slash shipping, no show as intrinsically interesting as Supernatural should be driven by a ship. Seriously. Bones can be ship-driven and that's fine. But that's a procedural crime show. Supernatural has all this wonderful angel vs. demons vs humans stuff going on and it's quite good on its best days.

Also, my opinion of Supernatural went down after watching Buffy (and Angel) which are two brilliant shows in the same genre. I really appreciate in those two shows how the female roles are not relegated to "girls who need rescued who inevitably die anyway" as in Supernatural. LOL.

I watched the first two shows. I found it somewhat intriguing but not really something I had time for. (I was deep in DW at the time.)

I do like stuff with brothers they don't do enough sibling stories.

Yes, the dynamic between the brothers is one of the things that has kept the show going. The two actors work well together and the writing (until the last couple seasons) has been very interesting as far as their relationship goes. There's a lot of dysfunction going on but also some very strong values, much like any family.

That is one of the things I love about it. The relationship between them was really awesome, and it was also realistic.

I don't even remember their werewolf episode(s)......... lol.

Supernatural is best when the boys are fighting demons or ghosts, IMO, but the early episodes of one-off monsters are nice too.

Speaking of villains, one of the best villains is played by Mark Sheppard, aka Canton Delaware III from Doctor Who. (So. A British guy who played an American on a British show. XD) His character Crowley is named after Crowley from Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's book Good Omens. There are multiple other references to Neil Gaiman's works as well... it's nice. :D

The brothers' story and relationship was the only thing that piqued my interest regarding the show. I'm loving your commentary, Jenni!

I've really not been enjoying this season of Supernatural. :P What do you think, Melody?

I have not seen any of this season. I stopped in the middle of the finale for s8.

Officially I have given up on Supernatural. I'm going to pretend that it ended with s5.

(There are bits and pieces I liked out of s6-8 and maybe someday I'll watch s9 basically because Cas is one of my favourite characters ever but seriously. sigh.)

Yep, and now all Sam and Dean do is fight all the time? There used to be such awesome brother moments, but they're just not the same anymore.

Cas is brilliant! He's so funny. Love how he is with technology.

I think this is one of the shows I'm no longer going to watch. They seem to be really ruining everything I liked about it, and I hate where they are going with the next season.

I've been watching this for a while now, and I'm in... season 7, I believe. I just saw the first episode with Charlie, and loved it! She's a great character. :D

Has anyone been watching this current season? I tried it, but I hate the storyline this time. I can cope with it when it's about angels and demons and so on, but I hate it when it's all about God, and it really seems to portray God as a weak being who doesn't really have any control over what happens in heaven, is scared of his sister, who is stronger than him and etc. I just can't be doing with it. :p
