WAIT, IT'S NOT DONE YET! *hides your eyes* ...but I would really love feedback on what I have up already. *lets you take a peek*

https://www.patreon.com/aubreyhansen

This channel won't officially launch until the first week of April. I am still waiting for my banner art (I've seen the base sketch, and it looks epic  ), and getting some more exclusive content ready. I hope to have a Patreon-exclusive ebook available at launch, as well as several chapters of Peter's Angel to release weekly.

But in the meantime, my description, rewards, and goals are all filled out. I would really love feedback! I'm taking this Patreon a bit of a different direction than most, and giving away all my books at the lowest level. Even if I published one 99c ebook a month, I would still make more giving it away through Patreon than I would selling to the same number of people on Kindle, and I would rather focus on building a community of even 100 people that have already decided, "Sure, I want to read what you have next"--instead of constantly trying to advertise over and over again to the same people.

So that's my logic behind doing a Patreon, and I explain it in more detail (and with more passion ) in the description. I would love feedback on the description, and value-to-cost ratio of the reward levels, and my goals (i have two). Does it seem like a good value for supporters? Does the description make you want to learn more?

Thank you for the feedback, guys. ^_^

When I saw your FB post, I had the thought that I should have thought of Patreon as a good fit for you and suggested it a couple of years ago. :) I only regret that I don't yet have a regular enough income myself to support any creators on a regular basis.

I'm only really aware of about three other people who are funding themselves on Patreon (though I'm notoriously oblivious to such things ...), and of the three one is a semi-major blogger for whom (I think) Patreon basically replaced ads on his website, the second is a software developer currently working on modernizing one of the key pieces of the Internet's software infrastructure, and only the third is a "creator" who isn't "giving away" his content anyway. (I haven't looked at any of their Patreon pages, but I've read what each has said on his blog about these things.) That last one complained, in the early days of his Patreon experience, about people pledging for a certain amount to download the files for that reward tier, then cancelling their pledge ... so making this a "pay what you can afford" rather than "buy what you can afford" seems to me a good way to build a predictable income, in addition to fitting the "patronage" model better.

*nods* That's always a risk, but, that's still selling my books to people who want to read them--and, of course, if I have a continual stream of good books, most people will decide to stay. :D

My point was, your approach is a good way to avoid or at least mitigate that risk: if someone pledges, downloads, and cancels a pledge, you've only lost $1 :)

Oh! Thank you. :D Plus, I hope by keeping it low that more people will be like "Eh, what's $1?" and stick around.

SO GUYS. I'm going to have an official launch party Saturday the 8th! Official invitation to follow, but there will be an ebook bundle giveaway (including Lady Abby's book) that's open to the public, the revised prologue of Peter's Angel with a new ARC cover (free to the public), a coloring contest with an exclusive Peter's Angel coloring page, and a writing prompts contest with an Amazon gift card for the prize. :dieshappy:

Also, my banner art is almost done... But I'm just so in love with it that I have to show you the WIP sketch. I MEAN LOOK AT IT.

<looks at your username> <looks back at real name> <puts two and two together> OH, so that was you! *hugs* Thank you so much! I sent you a message via Patreon so I can get all your social media links and give you a shout-out. I want to make a very dedicated effort to thank all the early supporters, because without someone willing to try it out while it's new, I'd never get anywhere. You're the best! :dieshappy:

(You get, like 20 bonus entries in the giveaway for being a supporter, so make sure you enter that.)

Heh, following me on Facebook will mostly allow you to keep track of what games my daughter is playing. She uses it for games that need a Facebook account (there is some criminal clues game).

I read an excerpt of "veni, veni" (I think it was on Amazon) and remembered thinking that I really needed to figure out how to get that old Kindle erased and reset before the whole Peter Angel comes out, because that excerpt was pretty darn good and the book would probably be worth checking out. So when you posted that your Patreon was up, I figured that I should do something to help.

So good luck and thank you for your writing. I read all of "Veni, Veni" and "GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO" today. Next character next weekend. :)

*laughs* Okay. Well, if you change your mind later and want me to shout-out a blog or book of yours, you can take a raincheck on the shout-out. :D

Ahh, that's so sweet of you! I'm so glad you liked it. Since you're on my Patreon, you'll be able to read the chapters of Peter's Angel as I write them. :D

Thanks again SO much!

Ok, so now the cross posting is getting a little weird, but you received a compliment on your Patreon page ... LINK

Ahh, that was so nice of you! Thank you so much! I know I sound like a broken record, but you get extra entries in the ebook giveaway for writing a blog post, so be sure to put that in. :D I appreciate everything you've done so much!

Also, something that occurred to me--you mentioned your daughter. If your daughter ever wants to enter any of the contests or giveaways (the coloring contest came to mind), you are totally welcome to submit entries of hers under your name. (That goes for everyone else too, of course.) Just something that occurred to me at a weird hour of the day when I wasn't at the computer, and thought I would mention. :D
