Quite often when I'm having trouble with one of my projects, the answer will come to me during worship at church. Once I dreamed the answer to a problem I was having after praying about it that night. This is usually how I discover the message or theme of the project. Does this sort of inspiration happen to anyone else? |

I get a lot of writing inspiration (or just general motivation to finish the writing I already have God is a creative God, and being around Him makes us creative. But I also believe that if God is pleased with your project (including your writing), He'll give you the inspiration and "supplies" to get it done. |

I've had ideas come to me in church, but I've attributed that more to my mind being contrary and giving me an idea when I shouldn't be paying attention to that. On the other hand, I've noticed that when my "daily walk" has been at its worst (when I have been most stubbornly resistant to God's commands), my writing---and in particular my poetry, which is of all my work the least amenable to step-by-step-whether-I-feel-inspired-or-not progress---has tended to come to a stop as well. And being of strong Reformed convictions, I am convinced that everything that I produce that is any good is by God's grace, whether I can see any "direct inspiration" or not. |

I used to think that when I got ideas in church, I was "being bad" and not focusing. Then I noticed the difference in quality, theme-wise, and the specific-ness of the ideas. They seem a little more inspired than the ones I usually get. But it makes sense, if God gives us the talent to write and wants us to use it, why wouldn't He wanted to be involved and help out? |
