Have you come across a new word today/recently that you have only just learned, and never heard of before?

This thread is for new words that we learn; I know there might not be many, but it will be interesting to see how many new words we come across.

I learned the word "Egalitarian" ...I still don't know what it means, though. XD

Here is it's meaning:

Adjective: 'believing in or based on the principle that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities.'

Noun: 'a person who advocates or supports the principle of equality for all people.'

Oooooo. Neat *will have to remember that*

Here's another one: "Salubrious"
Adjective: Favorable to or promoting health; healthful.

I like this thread ....more people need to post on it so I can steal their knowledge and expand my vocabulary with it. Mwahahahahaaaaaaa!!!

Without looking it up, I believe it's something that's common and broadly useful... or something like that. *goes to look it up* Hah, whoops. It's "aiming for equal wealth, status, etc., for all people", apparently.

That's a new one for me! *Makes note* I love that word!

Specificity. my violin teacher used it. It's another type of word for "specific" AND, it's really fun to say.

I learned a fun word last Friday at a Bible study:

Scuttlebutt: Rumor; gossip.

*Minion voice* Haha, butt.

Aah, that's a lovely one! It would be funny if that was someone's nickname.

It's even interesting-er where it came from.... Did you look that up, Aris? It was because of the opened water butt on shipboard where the sailors would go to drink, and, of course, talk. So it's Navy slang.

Petrichor= the smell outside after it rains.

Ooh.

What about before? Sometimes I can 'smell' rain before it actually rains, depending how much rainclouds there are and stuff, so I close the windows before the rain starts falling. And then I tell my cat I can tell the future when it rains...Not that she responds.

LOL I would guess it's basically the same smell, so you can use the same word. (And if somebody actually corrects you, then they deserve to be Vocabulary Queen of the Century.) XD

It's not really a new word to me as I've heard it before, but I've actually used this one twice today for some strange reason: Eclectic.

Well...that's a lot of effort to describe something unimportant or worthless.
