These are hawk-like intelligent creatures that live in the Northern Forests and north temperate area north of the mountains. The male is a bronze gold with burgundy streaks on the tail. It has a crest that extends over the eyes, like a long eyebrow. The females also sport these accessorising feathers. They are at about the same dimensions as the summer dragons. Also, I've decided to give the dragons a different name, valloians.

Anyway, the skreeks have a language all to themselves but some have learned the Val speech. They prey on the caribou and other choice pickings in the cooler latitudes and work together in clans. The females are a deeper brown color ,a bit more bronze looking, with darker brown streaks on the tail. Their eye color is as variant as a human's, with brown as a dominate color.

They rely less on industry and more on faith. They believe in a single, supreme deity and an afterlife. Their structures are minimal as large, hollowed out trees are common. The females enjoy nut tea and honeycakes on special occasions. They were very hospitable when the valloians emerged from the ruins of their underground empire, but scorned the use of metal and inorganic substances.

The clans will sometimes have territory disputes. They excel in medicine. They use organic materials, like using all parts of a carcass (antlers for decor, teeth and bone for furniture and jewelery).

Their reationship with the dragons is difficult, as the dragons are relatively new to the area and some are unaccepting of their philosophies. the skreek is a missionary of sorts. There is a royal clan that rules over the entire population from a castle of sorts. Its a growth of several trees that have grown around each other so they appear as one massive organism.

The skreeks can't swim.

I was thinking that I would change the basis of their form to another type of bird. The skatros are already are hawk-like. Or maybe it can be the other way around...

These are interesting, Seabird! :) So, would you say they're more like human-like birds or bird-like humans? It sounds like they have a pretty complex society.

They are human-like birds. I actually just came home with some results of some productive brainstorming with my mother. You've got to love that. :)

The skreeks are tribal and war-oriented. They believe that the skatros are the corrupted of God's creation. For this reason they will wear camouflage dyed clothing when hunting. It is too dangerous to hunt from the air since that makes them all the easier to be picked off. They instead move through and in-between the pine forests to hunt their prey, including fish from rivers, caribou, bears, and other large creatures of the sub-arctic.

They have bright war paint that they wear when they go into battle. They also decorate themselves with carved ivory masks from wooly rhinos (those actually used to exist in our world at one point). The skreek does NOT wear armor. That sounds too much like Guardians of Ga'hoole.

I'm also thinking about changing their design to that of a griffin, or gryphon depending if both are the same thing with different spellings. The color will be the same, it's just that they would have turfs of feathers like ears, talons for the front legs, lion back legs, and a bird tail. Oh, and a pair of wings of course. ^_^ This is how I envision griffins as a general statement. They can walk on their hind legs only. The males will still have that eyebrow crest. Their eyes are also fixed in place, like an eagle's. They also have sensitive hairs on their elbows, like a cat. Their bodies will be covered with feathers at the head, wings, and tail, but the rest of the body sports fur. Their scaly arms are covered with fur to the talons, like some owls. A skreek will stand as high as a man. In technical terms, valloians are proportionally bigger while skreeks are a foot taller by average.

Making them gryphon-like would be awesome  (I think the different spellings mean the same thing)
