Physiology: A two-legged reptile with long wings meant for quick maneuvering. They have a blue body and a beige underbelly, a red body, or a beige body all over with a veoleraptor type body-frame. They are about the height of a human, the range from 5 to 7 feet tall. The length of the body is longer, about 9 to 12 feet, corresponding to the height (e.g. height 5ft & length 9ft). This is due to their tail being almost half the length. Multi-colored quills run down the spine and to the tip of the tail starting at the top of the skull. The spikes on the head are thinner and shorter, more decorative than the longer and thicker spikes that appear about half-way down the spine, a little lower than the shoulder blades. They remain a consistent length all the way down to the tail. The tip of the tail fans out and is completely covered in spikes, top and bottom.
Their strength is in their tail and wings. The teeth of the dragon aren't very sharp (not like human teeth, a bit sharper. Plus their jaws aren't as strong as well). The wings are equipped with two fingers and a thumb. In this way they are capable of grabbing things with ease like humans. Their arm muscles are very much developed which makes them capable of delivering a nasty punch. The sounds they make are also human-like. You won't hear a beastly roar from them. The reason they have long legs is because the dragons originally lived underground and long legs helped them make climbing walls and jumping from rocky ledges in their volcanic home easier. (see history)
Their spikes are water-proof and the tail is the sole tool used for fishing, since the story begins in a fishing village. They fly high up and then dive down to skim their tails bent forward over the water at a high enough speed to impale any fish before the catch of the day knew they were there. (based on a skimmer, which is a bird) They also have other methods of fishing. (spear fishing. Other methods haven't come to mind yet.)
Also, the dragon has small ears at the same level of their eyes on the face. Their eye sight is very good. Night vision? Not so much. Sense of smell? Very good. Sense of hearing? Human level. Their eyes tend to be a green or brown hue. Their quills can grow back and rattle if the dragon feels threatened. Also, the quills can be laid flat against the back, or can stand on end at will. (an idea for showing expressions. Facial expressions similar to humans)
One last cool fact, they can withstand flying through fire (NOT SITTING AMONG THE FLAMES DOING YOGA) perfectly fine and have a second clear, fire-proof eyelid. They cannot, however, withstand submersion in magma. This is not due to the temp, since the temp of magma and fire are similar, but due to the quick breakdown of their amour.(really tough skin) Oh. I forgot to mention that their life span is 40 years, due to their meager developments in medicines.
