A year, a month, and a day, right?

Erm...

Everyone being here at noon (EST) a year a month and a day from its founding, which is the 21st of this month for a celebration. Tell them to expect surprises, and to attempt to break the record for the most number of users online at once.

And bring a friend. This is a good time for promoting HW. :)

Also announce that that is when we will be launching the sci-fi forum officially.

Is that it? Am I forgetting anything?

All righty. I've got it. I can draft the announcement, and then post it here for approval. And then you can post it in the morning. (I think you should post it. :D )

Oh, for your information, I am going to increase the smileys on the forum from 10 to 19 on the celebration day. One of the surprises.

I will also set the permissions so that people can't use more than 5~ smileys in one post, too, though. :)

With great privilege comes great responsibility, eh? That'll make some interesting character introduction posts. :D

I kind of ran out of time, and this is not the best I can do, so if anyone would rather write something better, go ahead. But anyway, here's the announcement! I didn't forget anything, did I?

Quote:
Fellow authors and Holy Worlders, greetings.

On September 20, 2009 this site was officially released. That date passed us a few weeks ago, and we scarcely noticed. This does not mean that we are going to neglect the exciting event of our first anniversary however! Indeed not! We have simply postponed it until October 21, exactly a year, a month, and a day from the original launching. We intend to celebrate!

In song, in dance, in great jubilee, there is a celebration being planned for every one of you who make up this fair community and anyone you can bring along! Be here no later than high noon Eastern Standard Time; (11 AM Central Standard Time, 10 AM Mountain Standard Time, 9 AM Pacific Standard Time, and if you live on another continent you have to calculate it yourself,) October the 21st in the year of our Lord two thousand and ten!!!

I am thrilled to announce, that on this most glorious day, we shall officially release Holy Worlds Christian Science Fiction, your sister site. It shall be a double birthday; the anniversary of one and the creation of the other.

So come prepared to be excited! Come prepared to be enchanted! Come prepared to break some records! Come and bring a friend! I promise you that there shall be surprises that you do not want to miss.

Looks good, Katie. I noticed a couple typos, so I copied and pasted your original message and noted my changes in red and comments in blue.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. That's my inner editor coming out. Anyways, looks really good. Overall, I'd cut down on exclamation points (yes, I know it's exciting, but too many ruins the effect).

Looks pretty good, Lady VKJ. I would agree with Evening about the exclamation points though...too many seems to ruin the effect.

I'm not an editor...you'll have to ask the new global mod (congratulations, Evening and Lady E!), but I think some things should be capitalized here...like Two Thousand and Ten...but on typing that it looks incorrect, so now that I've shed doubt on an ambiguous point why don't you ask someone who actually knows something about grammar if that's correct. :)

It works. Still not my best, but it gets word out and that's what we need, yes? Fear not, I agree about the exclamation points. It's a first draft, I don't think about these things. :D

Changed the original.

Katie... I have some suggestions and could drum up a few more, but they're not really that important, just little things to make it even better. Do you want them?

Note: I decided to use these { } to indicate portions that I think should be removed. :)

Well, there ya have it. My edits. Take them or leave them. :)

Good! One thing, though; I think you need a space after "However" in this sentence:

Other than that, looks like we're good to go!! :D

Okay, can we leave the birthday decorations up for a couple of days afterwards for people who weren't here on that date? The special room, the banner, the drabbles, stuff like that. Should we set a date that that will all be closed?

Should we announce the birthday party on the Scifi site as well, just to make sure we direct as much traffic as possible over here?

Will a big increase of traffic to cause any problems with your servers? Just a thought that crossed my brain. You've probably got that covered though, there's not that many members. :D

We could leave them up for a couple days, yes. Good idea.

They are scalable. Not quite as good as Amazon WS, but along the same lines.

So, do we need to discuss who's doing what on the day? We can't all be everywhere at once and there will be a lot to oversee, or won't there?

I know we need people to activate accounts, we'll need someone overseeing the chat room, we'll need someone overseeing the dragon egg hunt. Because if they get really, really stuck we can always give them another clue. :D What else are we doing?

Those three are the most important, I think. We will need someone to activate HWSF accounts as well, and be ready to field any questions over there.

We also need someone to head up the announcements of the 'winners' of the various recognitions (i.e. longest post average, etc.).

What else?

I've been activating user accounts over the last few days. I'll be at the birthday bash, so I think I would be able to take care of the user account activations if that would be helpful.

I can keep an eye on the chat, at least for a little while. I'm not sure yet how long I'll be able to stay on here that morning, although I'll be back after school.
