Welcome to Erde! To get to Erde, take the elevator at the Allenville Memorial Hospital and get off on the first floor on the left side. At least, that's how Carter, the MC from my novel Faded, gets there. :D In preparation for writing his story, I've been fleshing out my fantasy world and making it real. Browse the articles below to see what I've invented so far... More articles will be added continually - we're far from done!

A tidbit about the word "Erde"...
Erde is the word the Volk, the race that settled the bulk of the south half of the planet, used to refer to the earth in general. Legend has it that erde was the name of the unknown sphere from whence they came, but in reality "erde" was simply the word in their tongue for "earth." As their descendents molded the German language into English, the word “earth” came into common usage; the historic name remained and continued to be used interchangeably. Erde, like earth, can be capitalized or not. The word “world” is unknown. While other cultures have names for the earth derived from their tongue, Carter (the MC of my story) enters the universe in the south and associates himself with the Volk, so Erde is the word he uses to label the parallel world. As such, it is the word I use to distinguish the parallel world from the real world and the name I’ll use to label all these world-building posts.

Pretty index/introduction. I like seeing how everyone does their own style of those. :D

And yes, this is what I'm doing while crocheting today.

Yes, it is interesting to see how everyone does theirs, and Philadelphia's is particularly nice. :D

Fascinating, especially because I caught a Princess of Mars parallel at the beginning, even though the worlds aren't the same.

Thanks so much, Varon! I'm really glad to get your feedback. :D I haven't read Princess of Mars, so would you mind expounding? What comparison do you make between my world and that book?

The main character's name in A Princess of Mars is John Carter, and goes to a different world from our world in an unexpected way.

Ha! Oops, there's a typo for you. I fixed it. It was supposed to be headless snakes. :D Although headless trees is an interesting idea... o.O

Thanks so much for the compliment! :D

That it is, and also one that I shall explore.

NOTICE: Development of this world is currently on hold. Never fear, I'm planning to do bucketloads with it... just not until I publish Peter's Angel! A lot of what's in here needs to be updated, and I may ultimately host my world-building articles elsewhere, so for now I've locked this for archiving purposes. Thanks so much to everyone who commented and encouraged me! :D More is coming... just one thing at a time!
