"A world where everything fades as it ages..."

This sums up my fantasy world, Erde, in one sentence. Erde: A world where everything fades as it ages. The phenomenon that happens to human hair in our world--graying and whitening with age--befalls all creatures in Erde, humans and animals, plants and objects. Even the earth itself is growing old, whitening and crumbling into dust around the edges...

I first created Erde in the fall of 2010 for my novel Faded, which I wrote for NaNoWriMo. Since then I have been developing the world extensively in hopes of revising Faded and writing many more stories set in the world. The fruits of my ongoing labors are displayed in this subforum. The journey is far from over, so please, join me for the adventure! Browse the myriad of articles and illustrations in this subforum, or consult the Index. If you have any critiques or suggestions, please chime in with your thoughts! Enjoy!

What that means in English: You can do anything you want with my world. You can share my world-building articles, invent new creatures, even write books set in my world. You can sell what you make and you don't have to ask my permission. That way, if someone else (including me!) wants to build off your work, they can. Spread the love and have fun!

That's an interesting take on fantasy world licensing. Almost like a sandbox playground.

Wow. That means I can play around in Erde? *feels like she's been given a free pass to Disneyland* o.O

That's an awesome and creative idea, Aubrey. *makes mental note to start poking around more*

Thanks so much, y'all, and welcome! I'm glad to have some friendly noses poking around. ^_^ There should be some new articles posted within the next few days, as I'll be writing 6k+ worth of development this weekend, Lord willing!

Yup, that's the idea, Varon. I suspect I'll be doing most of the "official" world-building still, but I'm hoping eventually other people will want to write stories set in the world. There's just so much world there; I'll never write enough to even scratch the surface. Might as well let some other people in! :D

Awesome idea. :D *wants to learn all about Erde and write a story or two set in it someday* :dieshappy: ^_^ It'd be a fun way for HWers (and others of course, if they join in) to work on something more or less inter-connected. :D
*has visions of what this could become*

*attempts to dust off the room*

*coughs, chokes on dust, and nearly dies*

*gives up and sends her black cat into the room, who picks up all the dust on his fur* (He loves doing this in our basement and under our bed all the time...)

There, much more breathable!

Hi, gang! No, this world hasn't been forgotten. Jon would have to die first before this project would completely fade (haha) into obscurity. (True story.) While I don't expect to write any stories set in this world this year (although a short story might be plausible), next year is a definite possibility. As such, I want to resume world-building this year. I'm queuing up some of my polished articles to run on my blog in the next few weeks. Hopefully some of the additional comments I get there will inspire me to write new articles sooner rather than later. Of course, I'll still be posting new articles here for y'all to comment on!

Thanks, Varon! :D

Yeah, when Jon gets it through his head that he likes something... he will NOT shut up about it. (He's not listening, is he? I'm trying to make fun of him over here! ;) )

It's not merely that I like Erde, it's that I feel instinctively that it's significant and important. A subtle distinction, I know. :)
