The Gruekonn are a race of sentient beings who exclusively live on one continent. They hate large bodies of water and avoid boats except at great need. They are typically very large and always over six feet, some even reaching eight feet. They have very large muscle mass and are very strong. They are usually very slow. They don't ride any animals because they much prefer to be on their own feet, plus it must be a very big animal to hold one. Because of their strength they make very large weapons, even for their size, and they have learned to make bows out of metal.
Their race has a relatively small population as a race, only about a quarter of a million in the world. They were created along with the other races and fell with them in the Great Rebellion. They live close to mountains and often dig into the mountains to create their homes. (think Petra-ish, except not as fancy)

What do they eat? Does anything prey on them?

They are very much like humans or any other race in that regard. They are omnivorous and aren't really preyed on specifically by anything.

These sound really good. Somewhat like the Urgals in Eragon if you know what those are.

Are they generally evil or good?

They are just like humans, and can be either good or bad. The only intelligent race I have that naturally tends to any side, other than is normal, are the Zarazan, who tend toward evil.

I think they sound really cool. Just please, please, please, do not make an MC or important supporting character a Gruekonn who is "different" and wants to be a sailor or something.

Is there any particular reason why they are scared of water? Can they swim?

No, I wasn't planning on doing that, although I'll will have an MC that's a Gruekonn in a story to be.

No, it's just their nature, plus the fact that they are large and typically muscular, which doesn't float well. I suppose that one of them could learn to swim, they just choose to stay away from large amounts of water.


They have tough skin, but they are entirely human shaped. Their hands are large and usually gnarled. They are definitely more ugly than a human, but they are also not orcish.

So they are similar to cats in the way that they don't like water? But if one of them were to, say, fall into a shallow pool, they would be fine?

They would be fine, it doesn't hurt them and they might not even be afraid of a shallow pool. As long as there is no likely-hood of drowning, they are typically fine.

They seem to primarily be a race of warriors. Am I correct? If they are, do the women fight as well? Are they organized like autonomous tribes or are they all under one person/government?

Thanks! The women learn to fight and will defend their homes fiercely. They do not go out to battle unless it is a direct threat to their families and homes.

They each live in a nation. Very few countries are only one race. There is one nation of exclusively Gruekonn, but normally they are included in other countries.
