Brian of War (history):
During a time of war Brian was born. His name meaning "strong one"; his parents named him with their hopes for his future clouding their mind. Brian of war was expected to be a soldier from birth. His father would pride himself in his son's fighting abilities and advanced understanding of military tactics. For this reason Brian would fight. He was certainly not one to be crossed with, for his strength was viewed by all and known by every enemy.
To please his father Brian carried on his training; filling his father with joyful pride more every day. At the tender age of fifteen he went into his first battle. He fought expertly, receiving no more than two cuts (one to the forehead and another to the arm) and prevailing over anyone who would dare to engage him in a fracas. The battle he fought in was won and his town (Realta) grew with the overtake of Yernen. This was his first battle.

Upon returning home Brian was greeted with solemn news. His five year old sister (one whom he loved and protected) had fallen ill and passed, not two hours before his arrival. The news covered Brian like a wave and he was overtaken in grief. He hid his pain, though. Instead it reflected in his actions. He gave up fighting. His heart had been changed and he blamed the battle he fought in for his sister's death; for not being there. With this in his mind he lied down his sword and resigned from role in the village's military.

Needless to say, Brian's father was outraged. He grew a hard heart towards his son as Brian grew further away from him.

Without the pressure of training on him anymore Brian had the ability to pursue his actual interests. The first of which was the complete intrigue of the village legends. They spoke of courageous fighters, beautiful creatures, and magical powers. Due to his constant study of the little amount of history that the elders knew he received the title of a scholar. While he never truly forgot his fighting abilities.

A year later Realta went to war with Wesmorin in an attempt to overthrow the last remaining village yet to be conquered. His father forced now sixteen year old Brian to go into battle. Hesitantly, Brian complied. That brings us to today. Brian must force himself into a battle he wishes not to be involved in.

I love Brian's history, Bethy. He seems so nice, but has such a sad past in some ways. Beautifully written.

He sounds cool, Beth. A little bit like my Davien.
But, could you please not describe his hair as "dirty blond"? For one thing, it could possibly confuse the reader. (Like me; I read that once and I thought, briefly, that his hair was blond, and also dirty.) Secondly, as my Daddy pointed out, it is a beautiful hair color, but that description is rather derogatory. Would you really like it if someone described your hair as "dirty"? As a redhead, I wouldn't like it if someone described my hair color as "scandalous", or something like that. ;)
And I know that as a writer, you can come up with something more poetic and descriptive than just a simple cultural shorthand.

Yeah, as a guy with 'dirty blonde' I take offense at that. ;) Perhaps, golden-brown?

*thinks* Okay...blond hair with specs of brown that bring out his sparkly eyes making him seem extremely majestic when the early morning rays of dancing sunlight streak over his soft face. Or shortened...he has hair.

He's being typical Brian. Saving the world, dealing with Emuna, scolding Gavin... * cough * Almost dying... Pretty normal stuff. ;)
