| Post subject: | Land Creatures: The Mandar |
In a cavern far below the surface a Mandar worked. It towered beneath the cavern roof. Its form was manlike, and it had two wings each as long as its body was tall. These wings were black, dragon like, without the hooks that bats wings are wont to have. It also had black skin on the palms of its wide, lean hands and the soles of its feet, but its body was covered in scales. These scales were like a crocodiles scales, except where they were like an iguanas scales: from behind the heels up to behind the knees, around the insides of the thighs, and around and on the tail (for it had a tail), up the sides and back, between the beginnings of the wings, the back of the neck, and the back of the head; also under the arm, inside the joint of the elbow, and up the the underside of the forearm and wrist. The larger scales were the color of tawny, yellow sand, and the smaller were the color of rust mixed with sand. Its tail was like a long lions tail with a diamond shape of black membrane at its end. The feet were bearlike, but with long toes, and long claws (but the claws of its hands were carefully trimmed short), and its heels and ankles were built like a kangaroos heels and ankles. On its head it had two, great horns, which together made the curve of a recurved longbow. It had the brows of a crocodile, and the W shaped eyelids of the cuttlefish, but in moments of intensity the pale, quivering eyes could be seen beneath the folded eyelids. Its ears were shaped like a deers ears. Its nose was like a three-toed paw. Its mouth was like a giants mouth, thrust forward like an ape, with the lips of a dragon. Its chin was like the seat of a throne. The scales of its throat were like the scales of the throat of the bearded dragon lizard. A Mandar does not steal gold, or even take it back from a human that has taken it from him. They dwell alone, in vast mines created by themselves and their ancestors. They are of the Wise Beasts, so that they can speak, and craft things which they did not learn to create, and the things they make are of incredible perfection, artistry, and intricacy. They hide these treasures in their mines, and guard them carefully, especially from the dragons, their enemies. |

That is a meticulously detailed description of a cool-sounding creature. |

Thank you very much! Jonathan Garner wrote: cool-sounding creature. I just now realized that I have not described what the Mandar sounds like! Their voices are harsh, deep, and gravelly, but birdlike, never bellowing. Also their voices are never guttural, never croaking. They breath smoke, but not fire. |

Harsh and deep, yet bird-like, would give unique voices. |
