Another parallel thread in the Bestiary and my sub-forum for Iniel.

But since land dwelling beasts have a thread, and plants, and soon birds and sea dwelling animals will have threads, what is this thread about?

It is for what is, perhaps, the greatest class of beasts and plants (though not the most important).

Those of Outer Space.

But this thread is only about the beasts of outer space, and not about the plants, though they are also Corh. Also the Corh can inhabit places other then outer space; they only must be able to inhabit outer space at some stage of their life to be Corh.

You may pronounce it Cor if you like, some folk in Iniel do, but I also pronounce it more like H said while the tongue is in the position of R, so that air is blown between the curled tip of my tongue and the top of my mouth. There is no trill.

Here is the first of the the Corh beasts.



This sort, called Cun (pronounced coon), plural Cunen, can be unaffected by gravity, can occupy the same place and time as another object or Corh, can be invisible, intangible, tasteless, unable to be smelled, and without any other form of radiation.

They are never shapeless, unless they are a sort that is vaporous in form.
When they have a form it is either perfect, symmetrical, and simple, such as polygons, polyhedrons, perfect crystals, spheres or oblongs, or they are symmetrical patterns of liquid, changing or unchanging, or they are vaporous.

They can grow or diminish in size, but they cannot change shape unless they are a kind that is liquid or vaporous in form.

They can affect things regardless of contact, distance, or substance.
They can have multiple bodies without any connection except spirit.
They can change color and brilliance, and can truly exist in only one or two dimensions, or in more than three dimensions.

A Corh can change what time it exists in, ceasing to exist, appearing out of nowhere, and meeting itself, perhaps several of itselves at one time. Of course they do not change history, or the future: When they go back in time they can only do what they already have done (since in the past they have come back from the future, and so in a sense saw what they would do in the future).

When a Cun dies it loses the power of decision, its spirit, and continues in a fixed or repeating pattern of actions, or they cease to exist in any time or place. Their pattern of actions can be made (by any that have the power) so that no one and no thing can alter it.

Corh can pass from one Heavens to another Heavens through the Surfaces.

They cannot communicate with other creatures except by systems devised by themselves.

They cannot do a mistake, because if they make a mistake, before they do it they are drawn, apparently by curiosity, to a convenient place, and they die.

They will do random things that effect nothing in the universe except themselves and their playmates, for the fun of it.

They can only eat other living Cunen. They meet in a contest, and the loser will either become a disconnected body of the winner, or be transformed, partly or wholly, into potential energy for the winner. If they are partly transformed into energy, they leave behind a symmetrically shaped or formless waste.

They mate in many ways, some by passing through each other, some by remotely synchronizing their movements. The baby Cun can begin to exist larger than its parents. It may begin near its parents, or in the same place as the mother, or it may replace the mothers control over a disconnected body. Whether or not its appearance changes, it grows stronger, being given strength by its parents.


What do you think of them?

That...is an interesting creature, if I can even call it that. Do they have language? I'm assuming it wouldn't be written, since it doesn't sound like they have appendages, per se. How do they feed off the energy of a defeated Cun? How does one Cun manage a secondary body?

They do have a language, of the telepathic sort, but it would not have words. They would be able to leave telepathic messages in places, so that when something (something with the right telepathic sensitivity) goes there it receives the message.

They would be able (if they learned how) to write using telekinesis, or by creating burn marks by their thought (teleincineration?). They could also learn to telepathically communicate in a human voice.

Their feeding off of another Cun's energy is similar to telekinesis, but instead of creating movement it creates digestion: teledigestion I suppose.

It would be as if your arm was chopped off but you retained control over it: you were still able to open and close the fingers and bend the elbow, even though it was not attached to your body. In the case of the Cun, it would be as if you had two separate bodies under as much control as one body (four arms and legs, two heads, four lungs, etc.).

I probably should mention that even though Cunen have many different kinds of abilities they are not necessarily very powerful. A person may be able to fly, but only four inches off the ground, or for only until he grows tired. Also not all the different kinds of Cun have all the different abilities I mentioned: some have some, others have others, some have them all.

They usually are only encountered by people when they come down to the Earths (and they can easily, even accidentally, avoid detection as they come through the solar systems). They are of course too small to be seen, even in great numbers, by space probes or telescopes; and they are usually not brilliant, and do not obscure the stars unless they choose to (an interesting idea).



This was all I wrote about that in the original post, but I can give a few examples of what different sorts of Cun look like. I believe "Cun" refers to a genus rather than a species.

It is hard to tell their size because it often changes, but I will give the size that I "see" them as, the size most "descriptive" of them.

Alabaster colored, or pale, lifeless wax colored blocks, the size of a small room in a house, reproducing by dividing like cells (without introducing any curves into their shape), sometimes clustering together like pyrite crystals (except they can cluster and uncluster, merging and dividing with each other), inhabits nebulae in great numbers.

Obsidian colored, or magnetic substance colored plank shapes, a span thick, a cubit broad, and twenty five meters long, inhabits vast dark spaces, very powerful and important. This kind was the first kind that I thought of. I also have an image in my mind of a man standing in a yard, and one of these kind of Cun about half the size of a pencil moving slowly through the air in front of him.

Sometimes whatever size the Cun is, large or small or indifferent, it will seem as if it is a magnified image of something small or microscopic, or it will seem as if it is something far larger than it is, seen at a distance.

For instance when the man sees it half the size of a pencil, it looks like a submarine seen from a high airplane, though it is in the air in front of him.

Or it may be near the size of a house, yet seem the size of a planet seen from an orbiting moon. It may also act as though it is larger, one the size of a lion could move with slow, profound movements, leveling houses and trees as though they are made of vapor.

Or one the size of a wand could seem like a sub-atomic particle viewed in a futuristic microscope.

There are a lot of variables. Looking at the shapes of rocks and minerals could give you an idea of what they are like.

Whoa...those are interesting! Can humans communicate with one that learns to communicate with humans, or does that just make it so that the Cun can communicate to the humans, not vice versa? If they can communicate, can one be won over as an ally and used as a spy or something?

They can communicate with humans in very many ways if they choose, but their relations with not-cun would be mysterious and tense at best, you never can tell with cun, you really can not.

I do not think they could be described as able to be won over, or used, certainly not as a whole. It would be debatable whether they could be moved to pity, and, as Ramandu said of the stars, it is not for us to know what faults they can commit.

Many of them are Shape-shifters, and many are... the Strongmen, people I can not explain.

I just thought I would mention that the cun are not the only creatures of the Voids, I just have not posted about the others yet. But they are not as developed as other things I need to post.

Okay that makes sense...they're sounding truly other-worldly now. But I'm curious, if one did choose to communicate with a human, what would it be likely to do? Do they have a sense of humor so that they would confuse people on purpose?
